Theoretically it should, but doing that in a modern car is a huge headache, since the ECU programming is very different for a manual and an automatic, and the ECU is tied into LOTS of other stuff. It could conceivably do weird things like make the car not want to unlatch the hatch from the keyfob because the computer doesn't know what a wagon is, though that is probably just me being paranoid.

Oh, and never mind that warranty thing....

I don't trust car computers completely since my last VW, a 2001 GTI. If I opened the driver's door before I turned off the key, it would refuse to set the alarm until I opened and closed the rear hatch. Every time. It took me a while to find that particular combination of things that was causing it, at first it seemed random when it refused to set the alarm. And that was with an ECU in the car it belonged in!

Well....I know what you are saying....I have an OBDII wagon. But...if it works with the sedan PCM it can't be a huge problem. A reprogram COULD be all that's necessary with the right guy tuning it. That's one of the good things about these newer cars, while they can be a headache, they can also be set up for many different things through a PCM tune. My feeling is that everything would be THERE in the PCM and just need to be reprogrammed. I can't see a manufacturer building 2 different PCM's for the same models. It simply would not be cost effective at all. But....I could be wrong.

probably wouldn't be physically different computers, just different firmware. However, getting it flashed to the manual-transmission firmware might require having a friend in a Cadillac service department. I'm an old fat guy now, I guess I could give in to the direction of the world and have a slushbox in my daily driver.

Happily, for the time being at least, I have my 5-speed Legacy.
