Couldn't hurt.. probably tell you which cyl has the misfire. (should have said this first) You can also check the coils by pulling the plug wire while running and put it back close to the plug if it makes a loud popping/ticking noise its firing. If its silent then there's your issue If all are firing and they lend tools you could do a compression test right there. it's not hard to do actually. you remove all the plugs and screw the tester into one plug hole crank the engine over for a few sec.. write the number down, repeat. If its down on 2 next to one another probably the head gasket right between cyl If its down on one with no gas in the oil most likely a bad valve If its down on one with gas in the oil most likely a bad ring
i simply must get me one of these kia's! they seem like such fun! (warning: the above statement is rife with sarcasm)
Thanks Ian. I needed a good laugh. This day has been much more awful than just the KIA having problems...
Im going to have to do it tomorrow. It is raining a lot, which really is not that big a deal, but we have to finish get groceries and we will be walking all most of the day. We like the rain so its cool. I will let you all know how it goes with the car on Monday. Thanks everyone for your help. -X
I hate that I feel the need to ask this, but is there any way possible that some one could have done this to my car? I do have my reasons for asking...
X, that indeed is easy to fix. But it could also be caused by numerous other things that might effect one plug wire. A V6 running on only 5 can definitely cause the engine shaking. Broken wire Broken plug short in one wire etc Shorts can sometimes be seen at night with the engine running. In the dark you will be able to see the sparking between the plug wire and the engine. Or between the plug wires themselves. Sometimes, if the wires run through a loom of some sort, the loom might have rubbed through the wire enough to short. That can be seen by examining each wire.
Wire checking is easy.. looks like you need to remove the plastic cover on top of the motor and your wires and plugs should be right there Because they're under there not likely to have been messed with.. probably just a normal failure. And sugar in the tank or something should clog injectors.. not make them dump extra gas
duh...just looked and realized there's a pic. I was thinking that it was a 4 banger in there. Find an honest mechanic and have him find the problem, Xav. Then come back here before you spend a ton of money if that's what he tells you it needs.
All of the above is why I haven't commented. I feel sadly for you Xavier. It could be anything from a simple sensor needing replaced, bad wires or plugs, or ------------------ well many other serious problems. No way of knowing without an actual inspection by an honest mechanic. Since those are few and far between, unless you go to a larger garage, it is a gamble which you must eventually take. Even after checking with electronic computers, it can be a hit and miss replacement act to find the problem---or problems. You did have a water leak and bad O-2 sensors. The places to start. The engine shaking is because the engine is sick. Same reason we shake. So many things can cause this. If the engine isn't making knocking noises, I would suggest fuel or electrical problems.
