Sorry to hear about your experience with his insurance company. My finace and I were hit 2 years ago last Feb by a girl in a Ford Explorer. She was speeding on the interstate, lost control of her SUV and hit us going way over the limit. We were in my fiance's mint Honda Prelude (she bought new) and it knocked us 800 feet down the icy road, into 4 guardrails and finally came to rest against a bridge support. Our car looked like an SSP Smash Up Derby car. The girl's Explorer went over the interstate and rolled several times. Her insurance (Direct) took our car from the towing yard without our knowledge or consent and transported it to an auto auction in Knoxville. I found out and finally got in touch with the auction right as the car was in line to be sold. They didn't really care until I told them that there were no release papers, the car was taken without our consent and we were reporting the car stolen. They asked me to hold, 5 minutes later the manager got back on the phone and said that the car would be back in our driveway by 8 a.m. the next morning. They knew that it was not worth selling a car reported as stolen and having the police nosing around - besides, I still had the title. It arrived at 6 a.m. exactly as it was before they took it, but was adorned with auction ID numbers and lot numbers for bidding. Direct gave them the go ahead to take it (without ever contacting us at all) and was the WORST company I've ever dealt with. Finally got our money 11 MONTHS after the accident. Absurd.

I sure feel for you and am glad no one was seriously injured.
