I wonder what a person could do with old cameras. The lenses are usually good. The shutterspeed controls and mechanisms stand up... hmmm... I'll think about that for a while...

I KNOW, Norm! It seems such a stupid waste!
I used to think about what new use could be developed (no pun intended) for these beautiful pieces as well as other well crafted items that were pushed aside by "new tech". I doubt that, with todays need for speed, the lenses are ground and coated with the expertise and tolerances of the past. I could be wrong....and even if I am....these units and the various parts as you described should be able to be used for SOME good purpose!
I'll be damned if I would sell my OM-1 system for 50 bucks!

Remember those big vinyl parabolic magnifiers that were being flogged to convert your TV into a projector to an 8MM screen? Well camera lenses handle a wider range.

So... what would happen if you took a single LED bulb, shoved a lense backwards in front of it and projected it to a room? A 12-volt lighting system in your house run off a $50 solar battery charger???

My little brain is cranking away...:rofl2:

Heck you could mount the LED inside the cameras and mount them on the wall like a display AND light the room(s)!:D

If you do this it could look like the rooms where guys have all kinds of neon signs around their hobby room. You might find some of your friends smiling a lot when they are looking around the room trying to figure out which one is actually taking their picture, and of course others who, being camera shy, will not want to enter:evilsmile:.

What would be neat is a wall with nice shelving, a feature wall, filled with cameras and gear and with some ceiling pot lights shining down on them. For a change make the camera the focal point instead of them doing that to others.

I have one of those old bellows type of cameras that I use as a prop in my vintage Airstream. It gets a lot of interest and comments from "what the heck is that" to "I had one of those when I was a kid". You guess the age brackets.

Hey Saf, did you see that '56 Safari Silverfox put up today? Pretty nice, right? It'd make a nice set sitting next to your's in the garage.

I agree, sadly, my wife is of the notion that once her 70 SS Chevelle is done I can maybe go looking, heavy on the maybe, and not a moment sooner. I've seen a few '55's around (they were the largest production year) for sale but not many '56's in decent shape. The maybe is because she thinks I should redo the interior in ours before going after something else. I think I should do both, she's not a fan of multitasking - especially since I seldom drive now due to some health issues so she ends up doing most of it and intends to do that in her Chevelle. Big mistake surprising her with that car to replace the one I sold on her 30 years ago (oops), it being an unfinished restoration and hugely misrepresented by the seller. So a three month project just passed four years. Oh well............but I'm going to show her the pics of the '56 anyway. You never know, in a moment of weakness and with our 42nd anniversary coming up she might surprise me ..............
