"SHE"? ... snowblowers are named after women? ... is there a sublimal reasoning there?

Snow isnt that big of a problem here .. until it turns to ice ... I could use a good ice blower. Do they make such an animal?? The wifes hair-blowdryer just doesnt cut it!

------Seems as though we name many of our toys after women. Cars, trucks, boats, planes, tools, etc! :29: I can personally think of several reasons. They are sleek, sexy, fun to play with------:slap:-----Cost us money and always giving us trouble! And more but this is a family forum!-----:(-----About the ice melter: The large company where I worked had a big gas fired machine that we dumped snow into to melt it.

I think winter is coming early, at least here in the southeast! :xmas::xmas::xmas::xmas::xmas::xmas:

Here's some of things I do:

    1. Place ice-melter (salt bags) at both porches, as well as a broom and snow shovel.
    2. Fill my two 5 gal kerosene jugs for our backup portable kerosene heaters.
    3. Inspect/repair/replace tire chain sets for both my wife's van and my wagon.
    4. Make sure all vehicles have in tact cell phone charger.
    5. Secure shovel and an ax behind rear seat in my wagon. If I know I will have to travel in a severe ice/snow storm I'll throw my chainsaw in as well.

Speaking of shovel, I found this (actually a spade) is very convenient to stow and can quickly trench out snow and bust through ice and frozen ground quite nicely:

When I have to drive in the snow I like to crank up some Bob Marley. It's sort of a tradition of mine.

It may be winter outside, but inside the groovin' is as sunny and warm as a beach in jamaica. :)

I believe I have mentioned that my wife love winter. One year we walked across most of Joplin in 20 degree weather with 0 degree wind chill just to buy a pair of black stem wine glasses for $2. Last year we went out around 2 or 3 in the morning walked down to a wooded area down the road, disappeared into the trees, 10 degrees outside, crossed a creek, Z slipped and got a little wet, almost went home, but we decided to get our christmas anyways. After finding the right one we sawed it down and carried it home... enjoying Goldschlager and Rumplemintz all the while. 2 years ago we went for a walk with a convenience store cup full of wine. It was midnight then...

    WE LOVE WINTER!!! ;)

------decided to get our christmas anyways-----This sentence makes me wonder just what Christmas meant to you two kids! After all, alone and in the woods. Also we are keeping track of all of your violations Keys. Chopping down an evergreen tree on private property....Drinking while walking in public...and that alleged public indecency! Ooooh my! Owning and threatening to destroy a poor defensless Kia now seems so minor!:banghead3:

It snowed here Friday for awhile. Right on track, since we always get one small temporary snow before Halloween. It'll be off and on now, and full blown winter will probably turn on like a switch in about 5 weeks. That's the pretty snow. Then comes the January thaw, which makes any remaining snowbanks dirty and hard as a rock so they are ugly and last forever. Then it will usually be not as much snow, but more of a dry bitter cold wasteland till April, I call it the tundra. Then it will get a little warmer but continue, off and on, till about the 2nd week of May. Many times we get a spring tease, and I see people who don't know better planting gardens, opening up summer cabins, starting building projects, junking their winter beaters and putting their classics on the road. And I shake my head and know it's way too early to be thinking winter is over, because it always comes back to bite them in the a$$. I don't take the snows off or really start anything till after the 2nd week of May. But then I don't want to since Memorial day is usually cold and miserable and I might be running the woodstove till the 2nd week of June. We can get frost any time of the year. I keep ice scrapers in the vehicles year round, because I've needed them every month of the year some time or another. I've needed a winter coat in July, and have chipped ice off my windshield in August. We also have a ridiculous amount of cloud cover due to Lake Michigan. One thing I discovered that helps brighten the permagloom is those HD night vision glasses. Probably the same thing as shooting glasses. Worthless and downright dangerous for driving at night (at least around here) but really makes a gloomy day seem bright and sunny.

The only things I really try to do before winter is get the firewood supply up, and get stuff picked up that I can't have buried. And find a place to take my camper since the local ordinance says I can't keep it in my yard even though I live in BFE. Other than that, just take it as it comes. I've done all sorts of work to the cars in the middle of winter. Last winter I drug out my welder on a sled to fix a door striker bolt in the van.

I should make sure everything is up to snuff with the plow wagon, but I usually just wait till it snows and take it as it comes. Only thing I've had to really do is fix the fuel pump, which I made into a fuel cell on the front bumper. (It's ok since it doesn't go on the highway, and it's so much easier to manage that way.) I will have to charge up the battery and pump up the tires. It hasn't been used since January, there hasn't been enough snow since then to need it.
