Mannnn....I'll bet that was a happy and pleasurable drive from BC to NJ! I can't say enough about that wagon. They are true pleasure boats and that one is the best representative of one of those I have seen in many years. I like black woodies and that one with the red leather fills the bill. I am duly jealous.
Thanks H1. The Country Squire - type wagons get a lot of grief from non-wagon types. I've even stumbled across a fake-wood hater site when trying to find replacement Di-Noc. What they will never understand is that us woody lovers don't think the vinyl is real, we just like the decorative look it gives to the vehicle. (Personally, I prefer the darker woodgrain look to the paler ones, but it's just a matter of taste). My point is, it's OK to like what you like, no matter what anyone else thinks. And I'll bet there are some closet woody lovers out there who would drive one if they weren't afraid of getting razzed for it.
It all went very smoothly. I had to show the manufacturer's letter stating that the vehicle met US safety standards and emissions requirements in effect at the date of manufacture, and I had to show temporary Canadian registration and insurance. Then the border agent made out some paperwork for me to sign and I was on my way. I am not a mechanical guy, so I'll ask your tolerance to educate me about the rear end ratio, etc. I do know that the car has load leveling and its a 302 c.i. V8. Don't know about the sway bar. Thanks for the comments and patience.
KevinDupuis is in Central Canada, I'm in Canukistan. We've got more Ukes and Polish folks with a mix of 57 Heinz flavours that we don't even think about it. What a gem of a CP! Black beauty is right!
Wha???, BC...as in BC, where I live....you stole my wagon?? Please tell me it was'nt on my island? That is drop dead stunning, all that class and who needs sunglasses with that windshield. I was always on the hunt for that front glass when I had my 80. Beautiful Car:2_thumbs_up_-_anima
Yeah, you missed it Tedy. It wa actually for sale on Cars-On-Line for quite some time. Wonderful buy, 90Merc!
Thanks tbirdSPS, Stormin, and Tedy. I drove both kids to school in it today and picked them up, and we've been getting a lot of buzz already. I think it just takes you back to a happier place. My daughter is already talking about driving it when she's old enough. The name Black Beauty comes from a friend's dad's car back in the mid 60's. It was a black '57 BelAir wagon. She met her end in the crusher, unfortunately - wasn't even rusted. We just have to carry the torch.
now I need to ask, what did you pay for the wagon? It IS a stunning color combo. Was the black paint done later? Enjoying my own 1990 wagon It needs a few things to pass maryland inspection, but... not much. Not much at all.
Thanks for the post. As for purchase price, I'm a bit shy about sharing that kind of info. It's safe to say that I probably spent a bit more than some would have. What I do know is that wagons are gaining favor as collectibles, especially "dry" ones in mint condition, which it is. The original base on the car in Canadian was $25,449 plus options of $4,503, with delivery charge of $560 and option packaging discount of -$757 for a total list of $29,755. The car is black from the factory. Do you have photos of your 1990?
Unfortunately, 90Merc....the ad that advertised the wagon that Bernie got has expired. He got a really, really nice 90 Merc wagon for a great price. A1A found it and posted it originally, test drove the wagon and then helped Bernie pick it up.
you rang?....did someone say my name? bernie...what in the world does that car need for inspection? i happen to have a pic of bernies car handy!
