I prefer a manual transmission... Kind of a nostalgia thing, but I grew up with them and still like them. And I don't have to worry about carrying jumper cables!

Jumper cables in Florida? Last time I needed a jump was in Illinois in January -20 degrees! I really do love a stick shift but being shiftless is great in my golden years. :rofl2:-Carry the jumpers next to the spare in my 55 Chevy wagon! It could get cold here someday!

Perhaps. Or they are listening to market demand. I'm guessing those opting for the manual transmission was pretty low. Add in the costs of tooling manual specific parts, different calibrations, emissions testing/approval, etc and it's easy to see why.

Personally I prefer a manual transmission. With the exception of my Crown Vic (for now anyways) and my Saturn (which will be changed this summer) all of our other cars are manual. As stated previously it's all personal preference. Which do YOU like better?

I've been called shifty, but never shiftless....

And I wasn't worried about the cold, I was talking about a short circuit between the ears. (Like when it's raining and you turn on your headlights but then when you get to work it's sunny so you don't see your lights still on and come out to a dead battery.)

I can't count the number of times I've push-started a car or parked on a hill because my battery was 'iffy'... (obviously that hill thing was not here in FL either..)

I suppose a stick is cooler, and my fantasy cars and trucks are stick. In the modern world, manual transmissions are superior.

So, for fantasy, I want a manual, for reality, I'll take an automatic.

-In my fantasy I'm sitting in one of those multi-million dollar sports jobs with a super heavy duty automatic that will outperform any wimpy stick. And the driver is one of those super heavy duty expensive blondes that politicians and sports jocks are running around with.:rofl2: In my dreams!

If I can't have a free hand I wait till I'm done driving to smoke and I take a drink when the car is stopped. It doesn't happen often and like I said I'm not usually alone in the car.

:woohoo1: I only have to impress my wife and there are plenty of ways I can do that... with or without the car!:mischeif:

I don't impress the teens. I disgust and annoy them.:rofl:

I prefer manual. Both my wagons are manual , the Volvo has a 5 speed and the Mazda has a 6 speed.

Its getting harder to get a manual now days. Some models are only available with a manual in the base trim.

In Europe it is vice versa... at dealers: manual on every car unless special order.
A manual floor shifter takes away too much space in a car.

I think that's absolutely the case. Look at how few people there are on the roads today that can actually drive. The number of drivers that can still handle a stick must be significantly lower. Many cities are now removing parallel parking spots from streets as "no one uses them anymore", it's not even on the driving tests around here apparently. :slap:

I honestly think it was the mfg fault. Here the mfgs stock the lots with loaded models. This is because they know that most people want instant gratification. They aren't willing to wait to get the exact car they want. I have also found that some dealers make it very hard for you to order a car in the first place. Not to mention, the days of ordering a car with individual options is long over. If you don't buy a package, you ain't getting it.

I like stick. My truck is stick, my cutlass will be switched to stick, and I want to buy a turbo k car with a stick... Auto is a nice thing to have I will admit, for cruising and whatnot, but I really enjoy doing my own shifting.
