Thanks Guys! Rev, the color is going to be MOPAR Cool Vanilla. You'll see a sample of it just forward of the drivers door. Jack
Welcome to the nut house! I think you may just find a home here, like the rest of us have done. Great choice of colour for the wagon. That will look superb! One question, though. Are those brake lamp lenses the ones you plan on using? To my eye, they don't look quite DOT legal. The originals had the reverse lamps in them, but they also had the required reflective area. Without that being added somewhere on the back of the car, parked on a dark road, and you are likely to find someone's hood in your way back. The other thing with these cars is that the rear lamps are both low and small. I would give some serious thought to integrating a high centre mount brake lamp for safety. Maybe the one from the Chevy Lumina APV "Dustbuster". It should be fairly easy to integrate while you are doing the body work anyway.
Thanks for the welcome, Mike. I was playing around with my old cracked lenses, and a friend of mine gave me a sheet of red plexiglass. I removed the backup lenses to flatten the lens. I wanted to make a pair of old school custom lenses, which I pretty much did. It was more of an experiment. I would also have to use brighter LED bulbs. I have come across a set of European taillights from a fellow wagon guy in France. I will more than likely use them. I also plan to install a 3rd brake light. You are absolutely right, the taillights are too low for comfort on these cars. Thanks for the suggestion using one from a Lumina APV minivan. Here's what the Euro taillights look like [/IMG] If anyone out there has a pair of them they would consider selling, let me know. One of mine developed a crack and got worse when I tried to repair it. I really need a right side lens. Thanks again for your input, Mike. Jack
Those European lenses are neat, but they make the tail/stop lamps even smaller than stock! I never did understand the General's idea behind this generation for the wagon lights. The colonade generation, either, come to that. The tail gate goes right to the corner of the car, which leaves nowhere safe for the lights. Then, just to confound things, when you open the gate there is a solid piece of plastic behind the gate, so you can't use the full width of the opening anyway! Then again, even as a kid I hated lights in the bumper. At the age of 7, I remember telling my Grandfather that the 68 Chev lights were a lousy idea! I dismissed the original Chev Monte Carlo because the rear lights were too narrow and surrounded by too much chrome for good visibility. I was 9 at that point. I may have been a STRANGE kid. Lord knows, I'm a strange adult!
