    Another Cadillac Wagon

This one is at a used car lot in my neighborhood. I have crawled all over it. It has a Fleetwood dashboard, the air cleaner says it is a 4100 Cadillac engine, the interior is exactly like a Fleetwood , all leather. It is titled as a Cadillac. All the emblems on the door panels, wheel covers, tailights, dashboard are all correct Caddy.

Might be a keeper, except for that 4100 engine. :disagree:

Well, that 83 may have a Cadillac motor and interior, but the body from the firewall back is a stock Chevy wagon. Those doors are not from a Cadillac. Cadillacs of that era did not have lift up exterior door handles. Those are GM B-body doors. So this is a real frankenstein Cadillac.

So now I would suspect someone welded together the front clip of a 1983 Fleetwood to the body of a Caprice wagon. Then put in the Cadillac seats, door panels and glued on Caddy emblems onto the Chevy wagon tailights. Unfortunately this marriage gives you the horrible HT4100 motor and the chevy rear lamps.

    I'll pass.

I like both, too, but I have heard too many horror stories about that HT4100. Though I prefer older cars in general I would go with the newer one.

I don't know enough about the "conversion" to make an informed opinion on the 1983 Cadillac wagon pictured. I tried to read the vin but the plate was just faded enough not to be able to get the digits correctly.

I suspect that someone started with a Chevy wagon, grafted all of the Caddy stuff onto it. And they might have just put the 4100 aircleaner decal on a Chevy 305...

But who, a body shop with a Chevy wagon pranged in the front and a Caddy hit in the rear? Or was is a dealer who is into these things? And who got the title changed to a Cadillac. A quality conversion/ body manufacturer like S & S or Superior making limos or stretches would put their name on it. Nothing anywhere..

That's cool. Cadillac wagons are always nice to see, too bad they never made any back in the day.

More info on the 1983 earlier in the postings

The vin on the car is :

1G6AB6981D9135700 which according to GM Service parts vin decoder indicates is started life as

A Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham 4 door notchback sedan built in Hamtramck MI during the 1983 model year with the 4100 Digital fuel injection V-8

So, it appears some enterprising sole probably took the pranged 4 door body off a Caddy and grafted another GM station wagon body in it's place, and swapped interior pieces as needed. Too bad about the lousy engine. At least it isn't a diesel...

Out of curiosity, anybody that has a B body wagon, I'm wondering how its listed on the title.

I ask because I have a theory on how this car was built this way......Junk title on the Cadi......Using the front clip, engine and trans from the Cadi, along with the back half of the Caprice, will qualify it to be titled as a Cadillac.

    Just a theory.

I also suspect that the frame and body are genuine Chev, with the Caddy front end etc. grafted on, since the Caddy, like the Electra and 98 coupes and sedans road on a 3 inch longer wheelbase than the wagons. Making the wagon body fit the longer frame would have been a challenge.
