A Suburban is boxy and has a tailgate (or, optionally, side-opening doors). It also shares more parts than you think with a Caprice. Apparently 3 out of 4 is "enough of them".

I've always liked and wanted a Suburban. For some reason just never got one. I look at them as a BIG STATION WAGON. Isn't a Suburban on a pick up truck platform?
This is like when our son had his El Camino and other's El Camino discussions. It's a truck. it's a car. Actually an El Camino could be called a station wagon because it uses a station wagon platform complete with the indent for the rear seat foot area.

Ironically, not any more. The 'Burb and the full size trucks have taken different forks in the road. And again, what's the difference between the "pickup truck platform" (ladder frame, A-arm suspension for 2WD versions, solid rear axle, leaf springs) and the passenger car platforms with the same attributes. For that matter, what about S-10 Blazers, which share most suspension parts with the G-body sedans and wagons.

Which made a slick storage compartment if you simply hinged the closeout panel.
