Then you would have liked my 78.
Except it had the square headlights... ;)

Yeah, funny thing, the square headlights in late '77 and '78 were an option, but standard for '79. I just like the round headlight for those rigs. Haha, back in September '77, my bro Tim was buying a car at Brien Ford here in Everett; I tagged along, to be a pest or some such thing. As he's looking, I'm in the showroom, and I find the rack of brochures. I start nosing through, and like the mysteries of the universe revealed, I find the full-sized Bronco brochure, and instantly fell head over heels in love! I take it, and during the entire school year, I went through those pages, choosing my trim level, options, color inside and out, etc.

Yep. I think this subject has been discussed on here previously (round VS square headlight) I prefer the square, but it's all about individual taste.

Rectangular (or 'square') lights available on the Ford F-series in the '77 model year?
I thought they first were offered in the '78 model year, when the grill changed shape.
This is the '77 grill (and the '76 grill, as well....). I don't recall seeing any rectangular (or 'square') lights in one of these, ever.

    That is correct Krash.

    When I read Andrew's comments :
I took them as referring to the introduction of the 78 F-series in the fall of 1977 (as is general practice) Not implying that the 77's had a square light option.

No no, the change was mid-year, as my brother Fred's F-250, he bought it in May(?), so long ago for me, but I was still in the sixth grade when he got it. My other brother Tim, he went to the dealer in September '77, when I discovered the full-sized Bronco.

Just so happened that in May 1977 I was going to order a new truck and was told that only way of getting a 77 was one from inventory because they started production of 78 's . So I ordered a 78 back then you had a lot of choices right down to the brand and type of tire . Mix and match anything to your liking . Never saw a photo of 77 with square headlights to this day and would have to see a pics to believe they existed in 77 simply because of the grille configuration .

My 78, pictured earlier, had round headlights. and was purchased when they first came out. I don't see how its grill configuration would accommodate square lights. They must have change that later in the year.

You just need to change the mounting bracket from the square to the round and then install a square bezel.

Here's my 78 Crew Cab when I bought it.
    Has the early round headlights.

Here it is after I changed to the later square headlights:

Just to be clear, you're saying that the '78 model year F-series trucks came out early, like in June or July of '77, instead of September?

No what I was referring to is that they said they changed over the factory and started the 78's to deliver in September . They had enough 77 in inventory to go till Sept. Not like nowadays where they are still trying to unload the 2017's . They did not have what I wanted in 77 inventory I wanted 4x4 3.73 trac-loc axles , heavy duty cooling , Firestone town & country winter tires , lock-out hubs and numerous other options of my choosing . Back then you could pick and choose what you bought with your money . Nowadays they give you few choices .

Hmm, that's interesting. Fred bought his truck in May '77 when I was still in the sixth grade. I freaking wish I had a pic of it. Fred, ever the shutterbug, never took pics of his rigs and cars.

The passage of time can blur the memory. Wife and I have a lot of disagreement over what happened when, many years ago in our marriage. She remembers things one way, I correctly remember them another way!
