People started appreciating them, once they were no longer available. This cost-cutting measure angered plenty of consumers. But, since all automakers did this simultaneously, consumers were left with no choice. Imagine if one of the four had continued offering them
They were also easy to break into, a sharp whack of the elbow into the front of the window would snap the lock and pivot it open in one motion, and with the door handle right under it in most of this era of car, break-ins were a common annoyance.
Nobody ever broke into my cars which had those windows. It likely depended on where you resided and if a valuable radio was installed or if other valuable objects were left in sight. It should be no wonder that slide brackets for radios were invented
Here is an article a freelance writer did on my wagon at the NSRA event in Pueblo this June, the car did win a "pick" there, by the DJ that travels the NSRA circuit, who, BTW is a big chevy fan!!!!!!!! https://www.rodauthority.com/featur...ners-custom-1963-ford-fairlane-station-wagon/
That is so neat to have your car featured like that! It must make you proud. Now, let's hear a little more about the 79 Bronco fourdoor...
Well, that's just about the most awesome thing I've ever seen. I didn't realize it was possible for me to be more envious of you, but apparently it was. So neat! I've wanted to build a 79 fourdoor Bronco since I was 13 years old. Are you a member on the FourdoorBronco forum?
I used to be, but havent been there for so long, since I sold that bronco in 05. Heres my 54 F100 i built in 83......
Man, the 54 is awesome too! Oh, bummer. Why'd you sell it? I'm a member on there too, but I haven't logged in in a very long time.
seems like I sell everything, I get er done then need the room to do another, hope to keep my wagon tho!!! Am also getting a 57 ford 2-door wagon "Del Rio" in the next few weeks, needing total resto. Maybe I'll turn it into a 4-door wagon? LOL
Turn it into a front-and-rear-folding-seat Ranchero! And BTW, both of those rigs were very cool. Jeremiah, when I first fell for the fullsized Bronco in September '77, I wondered why Ford did not bother with a Suburban-fighter Bronco. Twenty years later, I read what GM's margin was on a Suburban, and just about flipped my lid! Late '90s, on a $50K Suburban, GM was taking $37K gross per unit. Farking Ford Whiz Kids, dumber than a box of assorted Legos.....
When I was 12 my Dad had a 79 F-250 crew cab and my best friend's Dad had a 79 Bronco. He and I thought how cool it would be if there was a 79 four door Bronco. We figured someday we should build one. We're still friends 25 years later, but we still haven't built a four door Bronco.
So, I took the wagon to a local high school auto shop car show today, and decided not to enter any of the award catagories, just wanted to be there and show my car. Well the award ceremony took place and when it came to the "Best Of Show" award they announced my name and the car 63 fairlane wagon, boy was I shocked, there were a number of very nice cars and trucks there, and I'd say around 100 total, but my wagon won the award!!!! Wow, that was very unexpected but very much appreciated, so hats off to Doherty High Auto shop for putting on a very fun car show!!! Oh, and they make all the trophies so they are very unique!!
