Yup, that crusty muffler just looks so wrong under that other wise super clean car!

    Awesome looking wagon though!

I was looking at this earlier today. There's a lot I like about the model - especially the 3 spd on the column, but something just looks too overdone in the restoration. Maybe too much red.. It might have been better with a black exterior. I think a lot of the original comets were black.

Somebody spent some time and money on this one. Totally stock except for the wheels. Kinda cute.

    hey, hey, hey, what?

    (1) It's that totally wrong, not stock in the least bit, lipstick red that POPS out at you. (2) They, quite obviously spent a great deal of money on this wagon,,, and DIDN'T replace the muffler? :49: Probably spent the muffler money on an over done paint job... ;) Other than that, yeah, there's a lot of red. If a fireman buys this car, he'll feel right at home. (y) One I wouldn't mind having, even though it's that god awful red all over the outside of it... And, yes, like Falcons, Comets came in black, a lot. And what they called Somekindof Bronze, when it was on Mustangs. Haven't seen too many bright enough to cause macular degeneration red Comets. And I've looked at a lot of Comets...

Taranau; That very bright red could well be the stock colour. Back in the early 60s I remember seeing a number of Ford products with that very bright red. Only thing is it was very prone to sun damage, so they didn't stay that bright for long. Same with the interiors. Ford red was VERY red! This is one beautiful little wagon, too.

Exactly. This Comet appears to be the same color as the '63 Falcon I learned to drive on. Only difference is this one may have a nice clearcoat on top. And yes, that Falcon faded out pretty good in the California sun. I think I remember waxing it - once.

Yes, red was a factory colour back then but as Mike mentioned they faded fast.

Its very nice, but, the grille is from a 62, and its missing the horizontal tailgate trim.

Meanwhile, theres a rare 61 Comet S-22 2 door sedan on Craigslist in my area that looks really nice. The S-22 package which introduced bucket seats to the Comet line, came out in mid 61. I've never seen a 61 S-22. This would make a nice companion to the red 61 wagon.

I noticed the tail gate trim but missed the grille, you are correct.

Amazing how you guys can dig into the history so well. After seeing al the ads, it's obvious they came in bright red. Good research, and very informative, but it's still too bright for me. Love the car- just not the color.

In the 70s, Ford reintroduced this very bright red, paired with white trim, as the "Lipstick Package" on the Lincoln Continental Marks and Ford Thunderbirds. It certainly is eye-catching.

My Starfire was colored likewise, when new. A previous owner had it painted white, though, and I left it that way.
I couldn't imagine owning nothing other than cars with either white, red, ivory or orange (only when combined with a blue-colored exterior) interior. Anything else would be boring
