So, this is nice, good shape, relative low miles (49,000), so you could still drive, not like it has 5,000 miles. Can anyone explain why this sold so high? Some rare combos of color/trans/etc? No Reserve: 1967 Ford Thunderbird Two-Door Landau Coupe for sale on BaT Auctions - sold for $55,000 on February 14, 2022 (Lot #65,790) | Bring a Trailer SOLD FOR $55,000 ON 2/14/22
Why so high ? My thought is two bidders/egos who had to have it. Remember the Ferrari guy at Barrett Jackson Phoenix back in 2006 of so ? I don't remember who he was against (maybe a phone bidder) but the two of them just lost their minds.
I looked back at the auction, the car was at $12,755 at noon yesterday and you are correct, 2 bidders (with an outlier bid thrown in the middle) took it from $18k to 55K over the last 15 min +/ -
dude! that bronco checks all the boxes! Top of the line. Best Engine. and on 7k mikes. hell its still new. its hard to find a half decent one with less that 200k on it!
Ok, so we have a new entry in overpriced car of the day. 1979 Mazda RX 7 with 4100 miles. So, at 4100 it not quit like it has 41 miles and you can never drive it, but wow! 4,100-Mile 1979 Mazda RX-7 GS for sale on BaT Auctions - ending April 21 (Lot #71,187) | Bring a Trailer Sold for $56,500 on 4/21/22
winning bid was same person that paid 121,000 for the Riviera. 1965 Buick Riviera Gran Sport for sale on BaT Auctions - sold for $121,007 on October 23, 2021 (Lot #57,970) | Bring a Trailer
I saw this when it first came up on BAT and thought: who the heck buys an RX-7 in 1979 and doesn't drive it? (Selling dealer bought it in 1996 and kept it in storage since then, so 4,100 miles in 17 years still seems crazy.) Buyer has a car museum (the Malamut Auto Museum), so I can possibly see spending 56k on a first gen, first year of production RX-7 if I stretch my brain hard enough. But 56k isn't something I could afford, that's for sure.
I would love to see that guys tax filing. Sure the cars are titled into some type of LLC or S Corp that’s coming off of some type of acquisition ledger, as cost of doing business. A mere mortal would not pay $56,000 for that Mazda. Can hardly wait to see the toilets crawl out from under the rocks for a buy it now of $34,000.
