What years did they sneak Olds engines into?

From my experience looking at ads for GM box wagons, the 307 Olds became the predominant engine around 1981, Seems some Chevys at least got the Chevy 305 around '86/'87 or so.

It would be nice if we could get an actual breakdown on which engine went into which make wagon for the various years. Sometimes the brochures don't specify the difference between a Chevy '5.0' and an Olds '5.0'

I know our 81 Estate Wagon had a Chevy 305 in it. The only vehicle I could say I helped order from the factory.

??, not really questioning your knowledge KK (you are the guy with many answers(y)) but are you sure about full size wagons 86/87 getting the 305?

My full size 82 Buick has the Olds 307 and so does my 87, yet my mid size 83 Olds Cruiser is factory with a Chevy 305:huh:

Actually, no, I'm NOT sure. That's why I'd like to know the specific details. From all the ads I've seen and wagons talked about here, it SEEMS that the early 80's box wagons for the most part had the Olds 307's. But I know some of the later ones, around the mid 80's, like '86/'87 SEEM to have the Chevy 305's. Also SEEMS that in the later years they went back to using the 307's. I don't have the specifics, this is just my recollection on all the wagons we've posted here and elsewhere.

Just throwing a thought out into left field......

Could the '305' talk regarding the full size wagons in the mid to late 80's be just lack of knowledge? I know of many a full size posted on our forum where seller claims the 5.0 to be a 305. Some have never included a engine pic and the ones that did post a engine claiming to be a 3o5 have ALWAYS been rite in the face a Olds 307.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the 307 eventually (late 80's?) became the only engine offered in the wagons across GM makes as demand for wagons was waning and GM was preparing to retool for the next generation design. Can't recall where I read this...perhaps wikipedia..?

Not picking a argument, but could we see a under the hood front end pic of the engine?

Wikipedia says the 307 was the only GM full size wagon (through 1990 of course) engine as of early model year 1986.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Caprice

The 4.3 L V6 engine received a 10 hp (7.5 kW) boost, rated at 140 hp (100 kW). The 305 cu in engine was unchanged and remained standard on station wagons. Station wagons built after approximately November 1, 1985 came equipped with the Oldsmobile-built 307 cu in engine. After this point, the 305 cu in was no longer available in station wagons. This engine was used in all GM B-body station wagons from this point on to simplify production. The 307 cu in was equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 140 hp (104 kW) and 255 lb·ft (346 N·m). The 350 cu in diesel engine was discontinued.

I pulled a 305 out of the '83 Caprice I had. I believe it to be the original engine.
