The dash HVAC ontrol has ONLY a/c or heater or defog. This is very far removed from standard GM HVAC dash manual climate control of the 1980s for RWD G bodies.
I wonder if this was dealer-added air-conditioning? That might explain the odd-looking HVAC control. The seller said the a/c compressor had been removed.
You are correct as far as I know, those controls do seem off for the era....but they don't......but they do....??
That HVAC control panel is weird. Then again I saw an '85 Cutlass a few weeks ago with a seemingly original AM radio in it.
I think it is correct, below is a pic I found online for this model years Buick sedan. I blew the small pic up and they are identical.....still looks wierd though.....
I had, or rather was buying a 1985 Buick Century sedan and it had that very same HVAC dash controls in it. It didn't have the same radio mine was factory. That was also the most thorough and extensive CL ad I have ever seen.
My guess is that it's an A/M control unit. This Buick seems fairly bare-bones - V6, crank windows. Could be it didn't come with A/C either.
KK,,,,real stupid question...... A/M control unit? What is that? Auto/manual control unit?...... but the controls say A/C..?? I wish I could remember what my 79/80 Malibus controls looked like, it did not have A/C....this could clear up some things, maybe.
Hey that's my car! Haha, I didn't expect to see mine in this section. I was just posting up a CL ad and searched through to make sure it hadn't already been posted and noticed this thread. I was going to post a thread in the For Sale section, too, bc there hasn't even been much interest in my Buick wagon. I did drop the price and am thinking of that again.. I did get an offer for a trade on a nice Regal coupe of the same vintage, but i need the $ instead. All the talk about the HVAC has me wondering about the originality now. So the car would have originally been an AC but with different controls? That system, for whatever reason, seems to have been hacked apart pretty badly. IDK why, either... the rest of the car appears very original. Any advice on how to sell this wagon is appreciated! And I know the engine issues are turning some people away but i just don't have time or money for it anymore. If I could, I would at least get the heads rebuilt bc I suspect they are causing some issues. Then with it torn down i would try to sort out the AC mess and make sure everything is correct and functioning in the engine bay. Here are all my photos of the car (you can look at any size, too): http://gngs.smugmug.com/Cars/The-GnGs-Garage/1983-Buick-Regal-Estate-Wagon/
