I agree Bill....when I look back, it was great being a teenager in those times too. The music, the movies, and even the cars. It was neat coming of driving age in the mid-80s and seeing inklings of performance again - it was cool to be a car crazy daydreaming teenager even if say, an '86 Pontiac 2 + 2 only had 170hp. Heck, even the Turbo K-variants and Shelby mopars were cool too. I wouldn't want to be a young man nowadays, there's just too many restrictions and PC and everyone with an agenda. Heck, even the swimming holes that we visited during the summer are either private property or off-limits due to killjoys. Oh man, and the muscle cars and clean 50's/60's cars that I'd see at Carlisle back then....now you just don't see cars like Thunderbolts and Hemi's and Boss 9's at Carlisle like you used to - they're too valuable and they end up going to B-J or Mecum to get top dollar. I'm glad I can still picture the sights and smells in my minds-eye.....
Is it any wonder that kids/teenagers today for the most part do not care about cars? Why would they? Utterly uninspiring - really expensive appliances basically.
Likely both.... I certainly miss my '83 CP. How many of you can honestly say, you hauled a Ford 400 V8 in the back of yours? Admittedly, I did dent the door skins!
The 80's had some great looking cars. That's a fact. I think that even if I hadn't grown up in the 80's I would like them. Well, unfortunately if you are a motorhead and like V8, rear wheel drive your options are thin. Mustang, Challenger, Charger, Camaro and some stuff from Cadillac. All of which are financially way beyond the reach of the average young enthusiast. I think that's why the truck scene has grown so much. You can buy a 10-15 year old 2wd V8 half-ton short box relatively cheap. Great way to go and have fun and do smokey burnouts.
I grew up going to car shows in Indiana almost every weekend of the summer with my mom, dad and brother. My dads brother had cars he took to shows, then my dad and my brother too. I'd take my son here in NC he never was interested. still not much.
