Very very good deal for the money http://york.craigslist.org/ctd/4080916704.html 1978 Plymouth Volare Premiere Station Wagon. Super 6 cylinder, automatic, power steering and brakes, air conditioning, cruise control. Roof rack. Rust proofed from new. beautiful plaid interior. One owner, only 79,000 miles. Owners books and window sticker.
Looks like a great deal. The cleanliness of the engine bay says a lot about the owner. And, you gotta love that plaid interior.
Any chance these could become as collectible as their 60's mid-size counterparts (falcons ect.) ? This might be a good one to buy, put collectible insurance on her, and take her out for the occasional ride. I'll bet that ten years from now that plaid interior will be even cooler.
Minus the cool interior that's exactly what the one I had in the early 90's looked like, my other one was red on red. Both were slat 6, both were very good cars.
hey, hey, hey Compared to their 70's counterparts, these are great wagons. Not sure about performance or mpg's, but I find these much nicer to look at than the Fairmont wagons. To me, Fairmonts are just small wagons, but the Volare and Aspen wagons are ponycar wagons.
Talked to the owner today. He had it on a trailer along with some others heading for car show in Carlisle. If I can get him the $1500, he say's he'll pick it up and bring it back when dropping off more cars. Really tempted on this one. I don't really like buying it sight unseen, but I'm afraid this won't last at a car show. I guess the only way I could get screwed is if the frame is shot. Seems unlikely, since he says it was garaged its whole life and had ziebart treatment from new. He claims there's a little rust in the quarter panels, but that's it. I was planning to travel up to new England in a couple of weeks, and he claims it could make the trip back to Florida easily - although he would suggest getting new tires. What do you think?
You can do a LOT worse than this for the money. I'd take a chance at $1,500. I think it's definitely worth that.
