    This one was very sparsley-equipped for a Bobcat. Lots of Pinto wagons had more features than this one.

    Here's the upgraded interior you could order. Probably wasn't much money in '78....

    I had a ‘79 Pinto Squire in baby blue with that exact interior. It was a really good car. Had the German engine.

    They were only available with German engines, the very same ones dropped into Mercury Capris

    By ‘79 or ‘80 I guess that’s right. Also had a flange behind the gas tank, so I guess they had a lot of stuff figured out by then.

    Yeah, they figured out that by installing that flange, Pintos and Bobcats can take a rear-end hit above 28 miles per hour, before exploding. I guess, the bean-conters over at Ford figured that installing a plate behind the tank was more cost-effective than to pay out liability damages settled in court
