Already up to $4550 with reserve not met. This will be an interesting auction to watch.

Beautiful wagon. Love the engine and manual transmission. Don't like that it is a base Malibu wagon, not a Malibu Classic, or that that it has crank windows. Still, a neat piece of Chevy history

oh those options, or lack there-of

Without a trailer hitch, but a manual transmission---leads me to believe somebody bought this to be a sleeper.

I've been following this wagon for the past few months. The 2nd owner parked in in 1986 and pulled it out of his barn last year. It sold for $3500 to second owner, who went through it and got running. The current owner bought it fom him on ebay a couple months ago for somewhere higher than $4050.

Looks like he's going to at least double his money.

It's a really nice wagon but someone must really like it for $8600. Don't get me wrong I like it but I think that is above average price for one.

Yeah, I was interested in it too, it's a cool wagon. But for me, not that cool.

I agree with you on that. I think the wagon is cool since it has the manual transmission, but for that money you could buy a nice clean wagon, do the conversion (with a better transmission) and still have money left over. At the end of the day while we all think this is great it would be pretty low in terms of collectibility to the general public.

Back in the mid to late 70's as a kid I collected auto brochures. Still have a ton of them.
Packing my crap while moving 4 years ago I thumbed through the '78 Malibu brochure. On the back page of options it listed a 4-speed with the V8 only.
I was into wagons even then and thought that this would be the ultimate if I could only find one.
This one at the top of the thread is the first I've seen!

The thing is that most of these box 1978-83 Malibu wagons have long since been trashed. It's very difficult to find one in original condition like this.
