Will do most definitely! I stopped by the shop this morning and although I didn't hear it run it sure looks good. They are sending it off to the muffler shop next to get that squared away and are looking into why the OIL light does not come on. I guess some tweaking is still in order. Thanks for joining me in this long journey. I really appreciate it!
What?!?! 3 days later and you're not showing off! Por favor! Al menos algo como HOLY SMOKIN' Torino!!!
I did see the wagon on the road the other day. Very good feeling to finally see her on the road. I just happen to catch it coming back from the muffler shop. It sure looked good. I had to return the ignition cylinder lock cause the steering wheel coupler was from a 72 model and apparently the inside sprocket it fits into is different. Got a new one today and it looks like it will work. New news is the OIL pressure is great, but the OIL light does not work when starting her up. They are gonna have to go into the cluster to see if it's a bulb or something else. Also he replaced the carburetor because the original I had rebuilt would not allow for adjustment so now I have to see if I can get a refund. The mechanic is gonna contact the carb guy and see if they can work something out so I'm not stuck with an extra carb. I also finally heard her purr today and the engine is smooth and steady. The front end is gonna need some lookin into cause the A-arm bushings are falling apart. I guess since the car is in movement now those rubber pieces are showing their age. I smell a new front end coming over the horizon. Gettin' close, but yet no cigar! Hang in there guys
gpd294 if you get stuck with an extra 2150 carb, I might want to buy it if I can find a 2-barrel 2V Cleveland manifold to go with it. I may never use it, but I'd like to have a set in case I have issues with this Frankenstein 1405/1406/godonlyknowswhatelse carb I have now. I'm as excited as you are to see this wagon back on the road, especially since my wife prohibited me from bidding on the one out in Cali (white on blue to match my sedan) that sold for a MERE $960!!! Glad she did, that rear side window/tailgate rust problem just looks icky to me now.
Hey Alan, I didn't get a chance to call "Mr Carburetor" today, but I will, because I paid a couple hundred bucks for the Carb Rebuild and I'm not sure why this Carb didn't work right. I'm PAID IN FULL with my mechanic now, but there are still a few things that need attention. (New TAB) Still working on Steering issues, (Ball joints, A-Arm bushings, Etc.) I figure since everything is already out, mind as well get it done and done right! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima Geez this build has cut into my kids college funds. I really can't complain because "Eldon" the mechanic has been great. He has allowed me to stick my nose in ALOT of what's going on, mostly grunt work, but I think MY DAD would be proud. My Dad would have done most of this rebuild himself. Well, I still would have been His flunky, but this time I would have paid attention. Funny how things work out in the end. (Any younger kid (and I'm almost 40) reading this long, long , long thread....Enjoy the advice you get from Dear Ol' Dad) It's PRICELESS!!!, I miss you Viejo! Thanks Guys for keeping up with my build. I can't wait to post a video of MY maiden voyage. To be continued........Good night....Salud (Quick funny story: This morning after getting the Bill there were a couple of guys that walked into the shop...They look over the wagon and said, "My Mom used to have a car just like this one" the other one said, " My Aunt and Uncle had one too, but in green" , then I said, after that BILL, " IT'S FOR SALE!!!"
Well I woke up with a lil headache this morning. I can't imagine what it could have been, but I have sneakin' suspicion it was the 12 oz curls I was doing last night. I did manage to get outside and finish cleaning up my A-arms so I could get them painted and ready for the new bushings and ball joints. I also went and picked up the new steering box. The one on there now is looking like Niagra Falls. The factory ball joint rivets were on there pretty good. I started out grinding the heads and attempting to chisel them out, but "nut-uh" they weren't budging. I had to run up the street to the muffler shop to get a torch to them. After a few minutes of extreme heat they came apart. Here they are ready for the new bushings and ball joints that should come in by Tuesdey. My "el fresco" paint booth is protected with what caused my headache. http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLanding.action?c=zovqivs.bs4mjaz4&x=0&h=1&y=-p7c89w&localeid=en_US
You didn't get hit with wixom's (David's) Hail? Lucky or you had it inside the garage? A-frames are always a pain. Nice work. :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
Luckily, my wagon was inside when the hail came through. I felt so bad for David when he posted that his wagon had been damaged. There have been a few hiccups here and there with my wagon. The latest is the instrument cluster needs to be replaced. The OIL light issue can not me repaired due to the cluster is deteriorating and the circuit board is damaged around that spot, so as a temporary fix I am gonna have to go with aftermarket gauges under the dash. I am searching for a good used cluster already and have a couple leads, but thats something I can take care of later once the wagon is home. They got the bushings and ball joints installed and all four wheels and tires are back on the ground. It's looking to be done fairly quick now. I am hoping for Friday, but we'll see. All that is left is getting her over to the alignment shop and getting some wire conduct (loom) over some of the wiring under the hood and, of course, a GOOD BATH! Will post photos once she is home!
Check this out, for a Cluster option! Specifically for 1972 and UP Torinos too! http://forum.grantorinosport.org/instrument-panel-illumination_topic3041.html
Great News!!! Guess who is home??? Guys I am so excited to finally have my wagon home. I got a call yesterday that she was ready for pick up. I came home, got the wife and kids, and off we went. I looked her over and the kids and I climbed on in. She started right up and off we went with my wife following close behind since I don't have tags for her yet. I've got insurance, but no tags. We had plans last night, if not, I would have started getting her cleaned up then. I woke up this morning and went straight out to the garage. I gave her a thorough bath and two coats of Mequire's Carnuba Wax. I drove her around the block a couple times and then started fixing some of the things the mechanic either broke or scratched. Mainly just touched up a few scratches here and there on the interior panels and changed tailight bulbs and fixed the horn. When I painted the steering wheel before I didn't tape off the connections so it wasn't making contact. I know I'm going on and on here and what yall really want to see are some photos, right? Well here are a few BEFORE and AFTER shots. Again I want to thank EVERYONE that helped me along the way and have followed my build. I really do appeciate ALL the kudos and cheering on. As many have said in the past they are never really finished. I still have a few more things that need to be done, but at least she's on the road now. Everything else will come in due time. http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLanding.action?c=zovqivs.3em8ppmo&x=0&h=1&y=1iihgf&localeid=en_US
I am really, REALLY happy for you, gpd!! And you did an absolutely SPECTACULAR job on that car. I remember all the work and hardships and now I see a beautiful classic. You did yourself proud, my friend. I can't say enough about the great job you did.
I just reread some of this post and picked up on the dash lighting problem, looks like some great info from Norman, will be interested hearing how you solve the issue on yours. Have fun!
