Jeffrey, I am making sure I do everything right for you...but I am about to break your heart...I changed my mind about Compati-Color! I couldn't find good blue seat belts, and I came across a set of wonderful black belts, and a black steering wheel, that looks like they have been sitting on a shelf waiting for me. They are in perfect condition! That decided it for me. I'm sure you will like it anyway! David
hey David if it is just the seat belts then buy the black wheel and know that there are seat belt mfgrs around today - I used to buy for airplane seat manufacturer (in NY I think - maybe we could buy blue webbing and replace the mechanicals from the new black belts - the wheel is easy enough to paint when the dash is done - I swear it makes a huge difference!
Keep Dreaming I just found this thread. Great job. Two door hardtop cars and wagons are at the top of my list too! I realize that there is a lot of skill and work involved in this conversion. But it looks as though it just went together so easy. Great job and the finished project will look original. Many of us lie awake nights, and dream while working, of so many great ideas. Happy to see some who wake up and do it! Wife just locked the garage and hid my Sawzal when I mumbled about the old wagon.
Well, I'm pretty dang discouraged right now. I'm working on my Buick today, after being out of town for the last five days. Turns out, there was a huge hail storm Sunday night, that hit N. E. Dallas, and my Buick got beat to hell! At first, I didn't think it got any damage, but now I see it got it everywhere. I am going to have to pull the vinyl top off, because the entire roof is hammered. That was vintage correct, white pearlescent Levant-grain vinyl, and I don't have enough to do another one. I will have to start over, reworking every panel. I'm heartbroken. Whoever heard of a hailstorm in September?! David
David, I'm so sorry! We got a lil hail and rain over in Rowlett as well. I welcomed the rain since it's been so dry, but that hail is just a nuisance. Sorry to hear about your wagon!
mg:!!!!!!! This is the worst news ever! I am SO sorry, Wix. And I am bummed beyond belief too! I know what you did with the roof and the material you used....not to mention that there is likely other damage as well. I'm so damn sorry to hear this, Wix and feel so very bad for you. Life just isn't fair!
If the dents are not huge you can try some dry ice. Sometimes that will shink the dent right out. If you do try don't forget thick gloves.
Wow! That is a gutsy project. I had considered something like it with my '83 malibu. I wanted to use the sail panel from a tri-five nomad and an el camino door of the same vintage as my wagon...but, I didn't have the nerve.
Oh my! That's a tough break. I like TBird's tip. We get our serious Hail in July/August. So far they've only been pea-size.
