Hopefully it looks the same as when I took the last pics. Whether that is a good thing or not...

Well, today I was able to check out the sunroof surprize FMC sent me! I couldn't wait to open this huge box/crate...but when I moved it, my heart sank...tiny glass fragments were on the floor where the box had been. I dragged it out back, and opened the box...sure enough, the glass was shattered. :slap:

A bummer for sure, but I won't say a total bummer, because this experience just reinforces my belief that there are some wonderful people out there! :yup:

Someone I have never met, sees that I was wanting a sunroof, and joins up to this forum, just to send me his old sunroof assembly. FMC :You_Rock_Emoticon:
FMChimera/Scott is the kind of guy I am happy to call a friend. :beerchug:

Definately a bummer, David. Very nice to see you turn it into a positive way to look at it.
I assume it is hard to have such a window replaced or have it specially made?

I got my wagon registered a few days ago, even though it will be a while before it is on the road. I wanted YOM plates for it, and the deadline for that was yesterday. These plates will be allowed as long as I never let the registration lapse. I think they turned out pretty good.

Awww, GEEZE! I am SO sorry about that glass, Wix and FMC. The kind gesture, all the work to build a box and it gets smashed by the shipping company! That is a damn shame, for SURE.
Nice plates, Wix....you make those in prison?:rofl2:

That pisses me off. That is freaking unbelievable. That box doesn't even look like what it did when it left the store. The hole, the masking tape, none of that was there. I'll be back later because right now I'm liable to say something I shouldn't.

David I would think that this would be a transportation claim - in any event, please call a glass company just to get an estimate for what it would cost to replace the glass - I would be very happy to contribute to the cost as would many folk here - I mean it shouldn't be more than 3-400 right? maybe 500?

My wife is going to institute the claim today or tomorrow. wix may have to do most of it, though. It was insured to $100, which is basic to any package, and that will cover the shipping, anyway. And we do have full pictures of it before and after...

I considered the possibility of breakage. It's why I left it retracted and put styro on each side rather than over top. Let the cardboard and wood strips take any blows without pushing against the glass. But what in the world they did to that thing to tear the box up like that. Looks like a herd of gorillas played with it.

:mad::mad: OMG!!! I am so sorry that the roof arrived shattered. I used to work for UPS and they used to pay claims all the time. I hope whatever company yall used will at least "help out" some.

Either way, I agree, I think that this is the real purpose of these forums. To help each other out where ever possible. One man's trash is another's treasure. Keep up the brotherhood! :tiphat:

Jeffrey, I appreciate your willingness to help, but no hat will be passed. :rofl2:
I was and am so very happy that FMC/Scott saw fit to send me his sunroof for my project. His generosity touches my heart. And you, Jeffrey, are also a super guy for wanting to help, but please remember back not so long ago, when I was feverishly bidding up an ebay auction for weatherstripping to the insane tune of $1700.00!!! Nutty as a bedbug! :yahoo:

I may not usually have much more than two nickels to rub together, but then again, I usually find a way to make it all work out. :yup:

And to you Scott, I guarantee you will not be out one red cent for wanting to send me this sunroof. I will make this right! This, I promise you! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima

    Happy New Year, everybody!

    David :)

    Wix,
I really admire your optimism. I also admire Scott's helpfullness. I have enjoyed the adventure of your project and I hope that I get half of the support that you have received if and when I get lucky enough to start on my vehicle projects. Keep up the good work and keep the photos coming.
