Very rare indeed. You rarely see an Estate wagon.

I wonder if it has the optional 3rd seat? I think it was even more rare.

Big money for a car that the sellers says needs a good body man.

It occurs to me that most people born after about 1985 with any interest in cars must have deduced from ads, car shows, and cruise-ins that the mid-sized Chevrolet from 1964 through 1977 was called the Chevelle SS and came with a standard big-block V8. This car sports the very rare stripe delete and cowl induction delete options.

The first SS "clone" or "tribute" (whichever you prefer) treatment on a wagon was -- perhaps -- clever and innovative. The 50th -- not so much.

    Total B.S.......

You couldn't get a 402 BB in a Chevelle wagon in '71. as far as I know. 400 small-block, maybe.

Not sure about 1971, but in 1972, the Chevy wagon sales brochure shows the "Turbo-Jet 400" optional on the Malibu wagons... I think this engine was considered the big-block 400, aka 402.

    Krash,

Are you sure about that? I am no Chevy expert by any stretch, but I know that in the Buick/Olds/Pontiac versions you could get the standard 250 I-5 all the way up to the 455 4bbl. My 71 Lemans Wagon came with a 455 4bbl Pontiac the same engine that was available on the Big Pontiac's.

But like I said I do not know for sure about the Mid Size Chevy Wagons. I know the 396/402 was available in the Chevelle SS's those years.

Yeah as I posted in the photo above, my car has a 402 and is referred to as the "Turbo-Jet 400" and it looks like it is also available in the Malibu wagon. Funny thing though is that the "Turbo-Jet 454" in the big wagon had less HP than the TJ 400 in the Malibu.

Turbo-Fire refers to the SBC, Turbo-Jet refers to the BBC. If the 454 is less HP than the 400, it probably has a 2 barrel carburetor on it, and the 400 would have a hotter cam and a 4 barrel. I worked for Chevrolet dealers back in the day. It was fairly rare, but you could get a BBC with a 2 barrel.

The 402 was most definitely available in all non-SS Chevelle models beginning in 1970, including wagons. Here is a copy of a GM memo from 1969 stating that fact:

The non-SS big block Chevelles are fairly rare. Here is a 70 convertible that was featured in Hemmings Muscle Machines:

    Krash,

I own this car, numbers on the engine match VIN it is a CLB suffix block.

The price was my I don't care to sell price because at the time I didn't care to let it go. I say it needs a good body guy because it does have a few rust spots in the normal spots for a wagon of that era.
