No Reserve: 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special Brougham Wagon for sale on BaT Auctions - ending May 6 (Lot #106,276) | Bring a Trailer
A PROPER Cadillac wagon conversion, for once! When you see a wagon conversion of a '71 - '76 Cadillac Fleetwood, it's usually one of the 'Castillian' conversions, done with an emphasis on reducing labor expense. The rear section of roof and upper rear body panel (below the back window) were cut off. A 'shell' was made up, much like a shell over a pickup bed. That shell fit the quarter windows from a '73 - '77 GM intermediate wagon. There was also a hatch used, possibly modified from the hatch used on those same GM intermediate wagons. There was no drop-down tailgate on the Castillian. It also had no provision for a third seat, since they kept the original sedan trunk floor pan. This wagon for sale has the full Magilla! It's got a complete clamshell conversion, as if the Cadillac factory built it. Probably took three times as long to build it though, compared with the Castillian. And it's got a third seat.
Yes, I love the clamshell conversions better. The only thing that is a little off is that the C pillar has a strange shape due to the shape of the factory glass. I think I have seen hardtop Deville versions converted and that has a different shape to the rear door glass thus making a better C pillar.
I’m sure there were rigidity concerns, but I would have loved to see a Clamshell wagon based off of a Sedan De Ville platform. Could you imagine a hard top Clamshell. Oh my, the best of both worlds!
Love it! Yeah just like that one. Lol. Although not sure if I could have ever gotten used to a “Wagon De Ville”
Yeah lots of little things to attend to and some rust issues, but find another one. Lol hopefully the new owner is handy.
ASC and Wisco were two coach builders of Caddy wagons. Teh Castillian was only a 1976 Fleetwood model.
