    I think it is perfect as it sits, but just lose the surfboard. Oh well. At least he actually lives in California where it actually might possibly be used for that purpose.

    I think so too but might be tempted to paint wheels white to look more period correct. Instruments and dash design one of Chevy's best IMO.

    Better equipped than the one my folks bought new - just a 4-barrel 327, Powerglide, PS and PB, AM-only radio, No A/C, and just 2 seats.
    At least it had a bit more room in the way-back than the previous Nova wagon, where step-brother and myself frequently rode.......

    And as to the surfboards, I'll give them a pass. About 70 miles from Modesto to the beach. Would take a VERY dedicated surfer-farmer.

    No offense Krash but my dad only drove 6s. Never imagined a 327-4 barrel being considered a "just" level engine.

    I too thought of you Krash and your folks Lemonwood wagon. I too would put the full wheel covers or wires and white walls.

    I'm not sure my dad would have even been aware of what engine would be correct for our uses of the wagon. In '66 with the Caprice wagon, a 283 2-barrel was standard (a 6 was standard in the Impala and lower model wagons...). For vacation, we took the wagon up into the So Cal mountains - Lake Arrowhead, and it was loaded down with people and luggage for a one-week stay, so I think the extra power of the 327 was a good choice. Gas was still pretty cheap back then.

    Nice trip ! Back in the day, California always seemed like paradise to those of us growing up on the East Coast. The very name "Lake Arrowhead" is so much cooler to me than "Deep Creek" or "Ocean City".
