No Reserve: 1964 Rambler American 330 Wagon for sale on BaT Auctions - ending June 17 (Lot #151,047) | Bring a Trailer
I know, it's a matter of taste. But, even though the bigger three automakers could afford to pay their stylists better, this wagon has the best front and rear end designs, over all other compacts of that year (I'm not including Corvairs, Tempests, Skylarks and F-85, simply because they were in their own category)
Unanswered questions...... Friend's mom bought a 1960 Valiant sedan when they first came out. I guess they liked it, because they bought another when the second generation came out in 1963. Then, some time after the 1964 models came out, the '63 Valiant disappeared, and in it's place was a '64 Rambler American sedan. They normally didn't replace cars that often. I never found out the reason the second Valiant was replaced so soon.
Well, they more than likely didn't swap them out because they were lemons. All of my Valiants, Dart and Barracuda were reliable and great to drive. Maybe, they just got tired of pushbutton automatics?
Thinking a bit more about it now, I have a very vague recollection of his mom being hurt at some time, so perhaps the Valiant was 'totaled' in a crash. I don't think it was because they thought Chrysler Corp vehicles were bad, because a few years later, my friend's dad ordered himself a new '68 Dodge Polara 4-door hardtop. Could be they went with the American at the time was because American Motors was big on 'safety', and buying another similar-looking Valiant might have reminded her of the crash all the time.
