1964 Ford Galaxie Country Squire Wagon for sale on BaT Auctions - ending July 14 (Lot #113,406) | Bring a Trailer I like it. Don't mind those rims.
Perfect color for a Country Squire. Built in San Jose. Hasn't strayed far from home. Should be real solid underneath. Gotta get that tailgate window fixed though. That's a 'must'. Surprised the seller hasn't done that.
Many car owners just like to drive them but never really consider basic things like that to be something they can fix. It has a permanent dome light problem and other issues, so it sounds like the guy was going for a look and a cruiser more than being a "fix it right" type of person. I base this judgment on the lowered suspension, the Wilwood brakes, 18" rims, and redone interior with SMS fabric. This is stuff that is pretty expensive but not overly difficult to have done by shops all over the place. Especially when it comes to electrical issues on cars, people who just want to drive tend to tense up and want to take it to a shop. My experience with automotive electrical shops is they are borderline incompetent on anything but basic wiring and ignition problems - unless they're a specialty shop they won't have any clue how to work on something like this. The wiring I do see in the engine compartment is definitely not factory and has been modified by someone, so who knows what is really wrong with the tailgate and dome light. It'll definitely take someone willing to trace through the wiring with a multimeter and schematic diagram, 99% of electrical shops are not going to do that.
This '64 CS is the same colour as my '64 CS was (and maybe still is; I believe I have traced it to a Ford Galaxie hoarder who has a warehouse full of old Fords.). I find it odd that BAT would call the colour "gold" when the correct colour for the '64 CS is "Prairie Bronze" and that the seller didn't correct BAT on this detail. Or maybe the seller just took it to a paint shop and said "paint it gold" and didn't really care about being 100% authentic. Who knows. Since I'm going to nit-pick, I find the wood grain too red. And the headliner doesn't even attempt to be original. Also, BAT permits 200+ photos. I'm surprised the seller submitted so few photos. I initially thought this CS would fetch a high price on BAT, but now I'm not so sure. Here's another '65 CS (not mine, obviously) with a wood grain closer to the original. https://www.oldcarsweekly.com/features/car-week-1964-ford-country-squire
I love your ‘64 Country Squire Jim. I have a ‘64 Galaxie 500 4 door sedan in Guardsmen blue. Another one of my favorite’64 colors. It was a South Dakota car originally ordered with the same 289 and three on the tree with overdrive. Absolutely love driving that car too. In today’s traffic you have to be a little more vigilant, fortunately I live in NM and not Chicago, but it’s a great trade off. In reading his description of the data tag he does call it Chantilly beige poly which is the correct color, or looks like it on the car. Prairie tan was a ‘64 color but non metallic there was another close color Navaho beige, but it too was a non metallic.
