These don't come up for sale very often: http://frederick.craigslist.org/cto/4316661948.html I guess the car is in Maryland, but from New Mexico? Upholstery was redone, but not in original material. The color combo is nice. I noticed that they didn't mask the door latches when they repainted it. I'm not sure about 62 but I'm restoring an all original paint 59 Desoto and the door latches are painted from the factory. I have a 62 Chrysler parts car that I will look at in the morning to be sure but I think painting those latches is correct.
No big deal. There is still plenty of leather to go around That's very unfortunate. I could stare at one of those all day long
This would've had a vinyl interior with or without cloth inserts, originally, as leather was not an option with the wagons. I like this, but I'd probably go with a proper grain vinyl in a dark green. I owned a '63 Dodge Custom 880 hardtop wagon back in the early '90s, with a 361 automatic, AM, heat, air, spinner hubcaps, and carpet. Paid a hundred bucks for it, and had to pull it out from under a huckleberry bush from where it had spent ten years! It was a white car with blue interior. This is the car I used the Scotchbrite pad and Ajax cleaning routine with, with great results! Should've kept that car...
We had a black '62 Newport sedan when I was growing up. I don't remember it with painted door latches. That was a long time ago, however, so it is entirely possible I'm misremembering. That seems like a odd part to paint, since it has metal-on-metal contact in places where the paint would chip off.
Just checked my 62 and it does not have painted latches. The strikers are painted though. Since this 59 Desoto does my guess is they painted them through 60 and went to non painted in 61. just a guess though.
All vinyl is is just immitation leather. I doubt that doing the interior in genuine leather would devalue the car. Does yours have swivel seats?: http://www.google.de/imgres?sa=X&rl...=705&page=2&start=17&ndsp=21&ved=0CMwBEK0DMCU
No, it was a bench. I sold the car in 1998 to a buddy, who drove it daily for five years, and even took a couple of 2,500-mile road trips in it. He sold it to a mutual friend, who then sold it in 2009 to a guy in Ohio. Still running very strong.
