My brother used a nice aluminum water bottle for his overflow tank. Looks like this one: About $7 on Amazon. Lots of color choices... http://www.amazon.com/Eco-Friendly-...8170165&sr=8-1&keywords=aluminum+water+bottle You'll need to fabricate the inlet/suction tube and mounting bracket. The bike bottles are usually smaller, but they come with a mounting bracket.
You can buy all sorts of sizes and shapes radiator overflow tanks at auto parts stores or parts magazines. The aluminium style would look good with the new radiator.
Update, new highbeam switch did the trick. Left the loose wire alone and hooked up the new switch and I now have high and low beam again. Before, whenever the high beam was switched on the breaker would shut all the lights off after 20 to 30 seconds until I switched down to low beam. Now we are good! As for the overflow... I kind of like the water bottle idea. But still pushing for a bottle I can see through in order to determine the level. "Ball" canning jar or Jack Daniels bottle are so far still my favorite.
I'd check that loose wire for voltage just in case. At the very least, wrap the end with electrical tape.
If the jar is filled with White Lightnin then go for it. For your themed wagon the Jack Danials would be kool. Do you need help with that? If the aluminum radiator bugs you paint it flat or satin black and most will think it's original.
Well, I didn't need much help to empty that bottle. *hic* Good sutff that.... Bottle keeps getting emptied every time I drive it so something must be working correctly. Finally!
Coming up on 4 years of ownership of the "Surf Rat". Not a lot to report project wise. Replaced the crappy old horns, which were not working, with 1970 Lincoln Continental horns and now I can present a commanding presence on the road and in traffic. I also found my previously fixed fuel tank patch had begun to leak once again. So... this time I tried something a little different. Since I build slot cars as a hobby, I understand soldering and the powers of same. No torches here, just a 40w iron a clean steel surface and some silver solder with acid flux to clean the surface. NO LEAKING! Took less than 4 minutes too. Wish I had done that two years ago..... Everything is running well now that I have new tires all around and the Edelbrock carb makes this car very dependable and easy to drive. Have begun the search for a front disc brake conversion kit to be installed this summer. Spent the last couple days burning up half a tank of gas visiting family. This is me cruising out to "The Farm" on Monday the 25th to see my granddaughter. She is living on 6 acres with her parents, one dog, two ducks, two cats, three goats, four chickens, five horses and the best parents in the world! Her name is Dakota. The ducks are Micky and Minnie and about 3 weeks old. This is my Son-in-law's new project. Updates as they happen. A fun day was had by all!
Tuesday the 26th I decided to drive out to Turner to see my Brothers project. Those who read this thread (all 3 of you) might remember the project being a 1955 Ford Sunliner convertible. The car was given to my brother about 30 years ago by his Grandfather and has sat for most of those years in storage. Now... for some reason he's gotten the bee in his bonnet to have the car on the road this summer. She's now back on her wheels after rebuilding the rear and front suspension completely! New front disc brakes and dropped spindles too! Some of the upholstery will be replaced with reproductions... ... while quite a few pieces will survive to live on. That's the update. Also took a few pics of my wagon in various places just for fun. Ciao!
Another nice update. Maybe the other two fans will reply! Always liked the yellow and black 55 Ford colors.
Jairus , glad to hear Surf Rat going great and lookin good , as for farm life what a wonderful place for grandfather to spend time with his granddaughter and we hope the 55 make its deadline :2_thumbs_up_-_anima from you know where
Thank you Gentlemen! I love driving the car and my search for a good disc brake trans-kit continues Saturday morning with French Roast in my cup and a free day ahead. As for the 3rd friend... I guess Marshall has dropped me.
Great Pics! Some of us are still "fans" we just do more "lingering" than posting lately! Love your wagon and the black and white photo really looks cool!
