If that's the case, it sounds like the friction does a passable job when the u-bolts nuts are properly torqued. Just don't do any hard launches....
Hard launches in a wagon...with just a 312/4bbl. I just bolted the diff down to the springs w/o the rubber/plates but I used the rubber/plates on the bottom of the spring under the shock plate. Friday the brakes go in and wheels go on! Mike
Don't scoff. My 57 had a manual 3 spd. It would shuck the teeth off 1st gear like corn off a cob. I went thru 32 transmissions before I finally changed to a T-10 4 spd. I could R&R a trans in less than an hour. A friend asked me to take her to the Jr. College prom because no one had asked her. I told her OK, but had to get rid of her by midnite as my fishing buddy and myself were leaving to go to Ky. Dam on a fishing trip. You might know that I got in stoplight drag and blew the tranny. I limped home and dumped her off. Pulled the trans, cleaned all the pieces out of it and put it back together. I only had 3rd gear left. We went anyway and spent the whole week feathering the clutch and parking where ever I didn't have to back up. We still had a good time.
Haha, Dad and I were talking about the wagon we had in Rhode Island and Pennsylvania, when I was born and a toddler, and he always referred to the wagon's 272-4V V8 as the "202 HP" engine. That's smaller than my 302 in Roger, with about 45 more HP. So never say 'never.'
She is out! Rolled her out today minus a few things, so she will go back up on stands for a bit. Here she is and the dirt I washed out of her engine bay. Next week I will add some more things to her again. mike
On your tank I would recommend Moyer fuel tank renu...they did my rusted out tank this summer and did a great job on it...I have a post on the process in the tech forum if you want to read it...of course you have to ship it there and back which adds to the cost but there aint many options for wagon gas tanks out there...
Wagonrodder, I actually got a new tank from Auto city Classics and so far it is a direct fit. It is a bit smaller dimensionally and hold about a gallon less but other than that it is fine. But I would like to have the original one fixed and put back in some time. Mike
Update, I got the rear shocks installed and right rear brakes done. When I went to do the left rears the parking brake actuating lever broke when I went to crimp in the new cable. Does anyone have a spare to sell me? mike
Picked the engine up this afternoon!!! Tim had to do some work on her like punching the bore out one size, got some ecg heads made up, ‘new’ rods etc. I can’t wait to get her on a stand so I can finish her and then stuff her next month-hopefully. I also got the original tranny out, have to clean up the threads for the X member and then it will be ready to go back in. It took me 90 min. To separate the bell housing so I could slide it out from under the car! I had to use a chisel and sledge to get the dirt away from the bolt heads. Next is install the long lines for the brakes and fuel tank and then the tank goes in. mike
Ah, the joys of working on an old car. "work on an old car they said, it will be a good way to relax they said"
It is therapy of sorts….makes you figure out how to get parts and still have a roof over your head and eat all at the same time. So it teaches you how to budget your money. That is my story and I am sticking to it.
Got her on the stand. The heads are just sitting there so they are off the floor. So now between the brake/fuel lines and tank, glass replacement and engine I will be set for things to do.
