    OK. Time for another update:

-I have hooked up the fuel line to the pump.
-I have added an oil filter and oil!!!!!!!
-Hooked up the horns-I will see if they work or not. If not I have two more sets waiting in the wings as replacements.
-Next up is vacuum to the Dist, fuel to the carb and rebuild the MC as it will not hold pressure. The water pump should return in a week or so and then water goes in and the PS pump goes on. Then I just have to make sure the all of the pulleys line up. Does anyone have a picture of how the carb (autolite 4V) hooks up to the throttle and transmission?

UPDATE: I thought I had an issue with the rockers on the passenger side not getting enough oil.Well I talked to the builder and he told me to rotate the engine and spin up the pump. I spun the engine and the oil pump and the oil return tube blew off and she shot oil all over the solenoid. It is back on tighter now;) To be fair though this is my first Y block and I was going to make damn sure the rockers all got the right amount of oil! I mean I spent good money on that engine. Anywho, the valve covers are down (until I half to pull them to verify the gap during the engine break in), fan is on, PS is bolted up, and the lower rad hose is now on. Gaskets come on Friday and then I can bolt up the intake, valley pan, and hook the carb up. Getting close now!

So what happened? The oil return tube wasn’t in there tight enough?

Yeah, so I tightened it down and put the covers back on. July 8 is the target date!

Not that it's necessary, but I have an NOS valve adjusting tool for setting valve lash.
If you're interested, send me a PM.

OK update time: tinkered a bit to make sure I didn't miss anything before firing her up. And the B&**^%$ bent a pushrod on me. I have no idea how it popped out of the tappet but it did. So I just ordered a new set:(. So am moving onto the next chapter-welding! When they show up I will replace it and fire her up!!!

I hate that, you think everything is set, and no matter how closely you look, something can get missed. Or you roll an engine upside-down on the engine stand, *after* removing the rockers and pushrods....:badwords:

I used to bend pushrods all the time.....missed shifts or shifting to a lower gear at too high of an rpm. I finally replaced the cast, factory ones with a set of tubular ones and never had another problem.

I am using the tubular rods now and just don't know how it slipped out. Maybe next weekend I can fire her up.

She has a heart beat after 40 years!!!!!! Ran her for about 2 minutes total at a high speed-still not sure how that happaened yet. But she runs with lots of smoke out the tail pipe and leaks at the manifolds.

You'll have those happen when an engine has sat for that long. As long as it doesn't puke fluids, knock, squeal or taptaptaptap excessively, you're GTG.

On the second run I got her to slow down a lot, still need to adj, the carb some more, adj the valves as they are a tad loose. But she ran much smoother than the last time.

Alright, good to hear. And one benefit from running faster, is the splash oiling of the cam and tappets. They'll be a lot happier now.

Still plugging away on her. The manifolds would hit 400+ so I went dual exh. to make sure the muffler wasn’t plugged. They still hit those temps so not sure what is going on. But I added Mello Tones and she sound really nice now. Needs a few tweaks but not bad.
