Certainly worth more than $43k. Seller probably needs to take it to one of the big auctions, but probably not the best time to do it right now.....

Do you think these type of late 40's woodies may have peaked in price? this one and the previous Ford I posted , neither sold and both bid between $38 and $43 i think. If i remember this mercury was nicer looking than the Ford. seeing some of the prices on BAT /Mecum/ etc. things are going high.

I remember roughly 7-10 years ago these original woody wagons were going for 6 figures. I had a friend that sold a really nice original’51 Squire and got $102,000 for it. You’re right Mark. Seems like the hot numbers have moved to Bronco’s and 60’s-‘70’s wagons, especially of the clam shell varieties. That’s the two Ford wagons owned by Edsel not withstanding.

Market may have softened some on these, but I don't think it would have dropped by 50%.

The NADA guide currently lists the '49 Mercury wagon at $51,000 low, $77,000 average, and $98,800 high.

Based on that, our example here should be somewhere in the $85-90k range, I would think.
    .................................................................................................................

I think that with our example here, it's the Covid thing. Spring is normally the BEST time to sell a collector wagon and maximize your profit - people getting ready for summer road trips and all. This year (and last year), that just isn't happening. Net result: No one (relatively) is in the market for a collector wagon.

I've read a few articles about pre 1960's cars getting more affordable, as the people that grew up with 1940's 1950's cars are getting into their 80's and not buying new collectibles, and the next group of guys (like me) grew up with late 60's to mid 80's cars are more interested in that era. Could by why the late 40's early 50's wagon that were going for $80-$100k are now bidding to $40k and not selling. Plus Covid, but Covid sure hasn't slowed down some pricing on BAT /Mecum/Barret Jackson. You can get a nice Model T / Model A for less than $20k
