    I would have hoped, 350 meant an Oldsmobile engine :(

    With a late model 350 V8, it is most certainly not a "66" anymore as series names back then gave both the series and engine. A "66" Oldsmobile was a series 60 Oldsmobile with a six cylinder engine. A "68" would be the same car with an 8-cylinder engine. Ditto for series 70, 80, and 90. That's what "98" as in Oldsmobile 98 originally meant, a series 90 Oldsmobile with an 8-cylinder engine. An olds 88 was an 80-series with an 8-cylinder engine.

    These are from the 1948 Oldsmobile dealer brochure. Note that both engines are in-line. The modern Oldsmobile Rocket V-8 was introduced the following year.
