You don't see very many do ya? I wish they had made some in the 80s but I have never heard of or seen one. Does any body know why? Or when was the last one made? I love those front ends on those things. Thanks, -X
Lincoln has never had a true car-based 'station wagon' as far as I can recall - going back to the 50's. They've had those big monsterous SUV thingy's - the Aviator from '03-'05 (based on the Explorer), the Navigator (based on the Ford Expedition); the newer CUV's - the MKX (Ford Edge-based) and MKT (Ford Flex platform). There have been conversions of Mercury Colony Parks using a Lincoln grill, but these have mostly been cosmetic spiff-ups - they're still Mercurys. There's this custom Lincoln wagon, based on a '56 - only one of these: EDIT: Here's a better pic of the above Lincoln wagon from our own gallery. Note: This was NOT a factory-built concept vehicle. It was built by a private owner. Also in the gallery over at stationwagon.com is this wagon based on a 70's Town Car:
Maybe because Lincoln is like the Cadillac of Ford Motor Company? There were almost no Cadillac wagons either. Except for hearses. I remember when I was a kid I said to my mom "I sure would like to see a Cadillac wagon sometime" and she said "it's called a hearse". I wonder if there were a lot of Lincolns made into hearses too?
We have a member here who joined with this custom Continental 'Shooting Brake'. Last I heard, it was for sale, but a bit pricy... The 'wagon' parts came from a late 70's Ford LTDII wagon (or '77 Mercury Cougar wagon)
There was just a 80 Cadillac Wagon on C/L in Chicago didn't even look custom!! Low miles, in good shape, too! I think Cadillac Rick had it, but don't think it sold. If someone is serious - PM me, and I'll find his number!
A 60s one would be cool. Shame that hearse is just a 2 door. It's not like someone would go on and on about how cool the suicide doors are at a funeral.
There were actually quite a few Lincoln hearses over the decades. I agree that I would love to have a wagon based of this model: You know, I never realized it before but Lincoln was the Cadi of the Fords. Thanks for the help. I was just thinking about it earlier because I see several of the Lincoln models like the one above around town and I think that they would make quite the good looking wagon. I don't know for sure but it seems that people were more interested in wagonizing a Cadillac than a Lincoln... Their loss. They did make a damn fine looking hearse. I have only had the privilege of driving a hearse once and that was a friends 198? Lincoln. Smooth ride, comfortable seats, and OOOOhh the way it drove would send chills down the spine of even the dead... What a car...
Lincoln. Smooth ride, comfortable seats, and OOOOhh the way it drove would send chills down the spine of even the dead... What a car... __________________ This is exactly why not many were made into hearses. Too many corpses woke and the funeral homes had to give the families their money back!!
Apparently a Japanese toy manufacturer in the early '60s thought a Lincoln wagon was a good idea. I have a couple different ones and I believe there are others including an ambulance. It was pretty common for these toy makers to produce as many versions as possible once they had the casting. They first produced sedans then turned them into wagons(and sometimes pickups) even if the real car never existed.
Jaunty and I saw the big lincoln wagon with its trailer over the summer. the pictures do it no justice. its beautiful...and damn its big!
