Air conditioning, power tailgate, and AM-FM stereo. That's it for options. No rear seat, no clock, no matched seat belts, not even the deluxe steering wheel. Engine is even a 400-2bbl. You'd have to really like green and really like this basic car for $15k.

Was there a reason these had the black (rubber?) stripes on the tailgate? or just for looks? i remember those, but not sure purpose.

It's appearance thing. 1974 on the base model was the only year I recall them being used.

I think Pontiac called this lakemist green. Buick was Ranch green. Interesting color. Green was king in the late ‘60’s early’70’s.

Nice-looking car. But, did anyone else notice it's missing the wheel well trim. I just really hate when "any " car is missing that trim.:meh:

Thumbing through an on-line brochure, there wasn't any mention of them being standard, and the page had 2 Catalinas shown - one with wheel opening moldings, and one without. So my guess is they were optional.

They totally were on the base Catalina, code B96. I had a '74 nearly as basic as this (with a 455 and gauges though) and it didn't have any of the trim on it either.
