I could tell before I even read the description that this had been a funeral parlor service car. So, the vinyl roof was either dealer installed or installed at some aftermarket shop. The question I have is, why is there a depression on the roof top over the driver seat towards the front of the roof?
Good question. My guess is that maybe they were originally going to install a 'gumball' light there on the roof after the padded top went on, the top shop making a depression for it, but they changed their mind?
Yeah or there was maybe an amber stick on light or some type of signage. My big question is if this started out life as a commercial car why the DFRS? I wanna know who road in those.
If you look at the Marti report, you will see that the car was ordered in the fall and then not purchased until several months later. This tells me that it was a dealer stock car and not an ordered car. Basically what I think happened was the funeral home needed a car and went out and found a silver Ford station wagon that was loaded and simply purchased it and had a vinyl top put on it. One other thing that surprises me is that they went through all the trouble to put the vinyl top on, like many funeral homes did in the past, did not bother to cover the rear quarter panel windows and add Landau bars. Another reason I feel this is what happened is that taking note of many funeral service vehicles in the past they generally went with silver or black exterior and either black or blue interior. The red interior does stand out in a funeral vehicle.
Yeah that makes sense. They were probably also looking for anything with heavy duty suspension. It’s interesting that this car was made in August of ‘90 which normally would have denoted an early model but in ‘91 the switch over started early. I have a 1990 Grand Marquis that was made in April of 1990. I then purchased a 1991 Grand Marquis and it too was built in April of ‘90. Thought that was interesting then I remembered the ‘88 Town Car was also introduced in mid 1987. Maybe Ford wanted to pad the ‘91 sales numbers as this was long in the tooth, and the last year. Would be interested to know since ‘92 was a total new model if they stoped production early on the ‘91’s to have time for the complete switch over. Sorry just nerdy musings. Lol
I saw a light blue one like this one on Facebook the other day. The guy was asking 9500 for it. Not quite the low miles of this car but the car was in very good shape. Looked like no dents at all and the paint was very shiny. By looking at the photos the only thing I would do would be to recover the leather steering wheel. I guess they are kind of all over the place price wise
