    Those Mazda engines were pretty stoutly built, but you definitely weren't winning any races or hill climbs with their roughly 60HP...

    Pretty cool, I never knew they made these in a diesel. I knew that Chevette came with a diesel, but not the escort or links.

    Love it. Trailer hitch. Wonder what he pulled behind that. I wouldn’t think you could have pulled your fathers fart finger with that thing. It would make a cool round about town car. I had read that with Mazda engines it was not uncommon to get milage in the 50’s. Neat car and has to be super rare.

    Yes, those little four banger diesels did very well on mileage. A buddy of mine bought a brand new 1984 Nissan (it may have still been Datsun or during the name change) Sentra diesel. He got over 50 miles per gallon on every tank. And, those of you that remember diesel fuel used to be cheaper than gasoline, so it used to cost him practically nothing to drive.
