1968 Pontiac Executive Safari 428

Well, at least the 428 emblem is still there

 

Yup, was a nice car once. When the guy found it the engine and front seat were already gone. Only a labor of love is going to bring this one back, it's parts for the rest of ours otherwise.

 

Now it just looks like it's had it.

$3500 for no drivetrain and virtually no quarters?
One of us is not firing on all cylinders (could it be the one with no engine?).

 

Even as rough as the body is there are some pretty rare parts left on that thing. I also see cruise control. I don't know Pontiacs well enough to tell if that has disc brakes or not. I know Chevy full size of that era required 15" wheels with disc brakes, but I see no such stipulation in the 1968 Pontiac brochure.

Too bad the original engine isn't still with it. Should have been at least 375hp version.

 

With that engine option, it should have had standard disc brakes, at that age

 

Once again, this would be a good car for Joe (JMT455). Just think what he could do with this thing!?!?!?!?!

 

As hard as he's working on the '58 Buick, he's probably going to want to take a break from 'restoration' for a while.....

you should've seen the Caballero we saved then.....but at least it was rust free....

 

I don't think Front Disc Brakes were standard on GM Full Size cars until 1971, they were optional starting in 1967. But from the under hood picture it looks like the delay valve used on GM Disc Brake cars on 67-70 is present near the master cylinder is present on this car, so my guess is it has the leaky 67/68 2 piston disc breaks.

 

I still think this is a neat car - even though it is rough. Must've been nice back in the day....
