Original owner but no AC and looking crunchy. $5000. https://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/d/mercury-montego-station/6227476108.html
Are cars with that kind of rust (Detroit!!!) really worth that kind of money? I love the Merc symbol on the door trim panel (as well as on the steering wheel). As time went on, these little touches were eliminated, so there was progressively less to differentiate a Mercury from a Ford. Eventually, Mercury was eliminated, too. I, for one, mourn its passing. But no matter how rare or lamented, I think $5K's too much for a rusty Montego.
I don't know what this finish looks like when polished but it looks dull to me now. The dull paint, dirt and leaf debris on the floors isn't helping a $5k sale, is it? Maybe they should knock it down by $2k?
Unfortunatley, even cleaning up the floors aren't gonna help that $5k asking price, although it ain't gonna hurt. The interior does look to be in great shape, and is probably the best selling point of this Montego, considering the crustiness on the outside. With the amount of rust, and lackluster popularity of Montegos (believe me, I'm speaking from experience), he'll be lucky to get half his asking price, if that much.
He's already cut the price in half. http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/threads/1973-mercury-montego-mx.44036/
Haha. Didn't realize we had already discussed this one. At least this time around he's got interior pics. Hopefully he'll figure it out.
These prices are pretty common in the summer. I call it the Motor City Mark-up. Seems people selling old cars are thinking others will pay big money for the Dream Cruise. http://www.madmanmike.com/woodward_dream_cruise.html
