Steep price for a 70s wagon.

Love it. Almost anything bright red and with the dark wood looks great. Agree with both above posts.

I'm not sure how much they were originally asking for it, but I don't think $7500 is unreasonable for it, now.

Sorry to disagree, but the woodgrain is not authentic, and I have strong doubts about its durability.

I do think $7500 is a bit out of line. How far out of line would depend on overall condition that we can't judge adequately from the 3 pics provided.

For that one, maybe. Wrong front clip, first of all.

Do '72s bring significantly more than '73s?

For wagons, I mean. I'm sure the gap between Sport fastbacks in the two years has widened considerably since the movie.

Even without the movie, the 72s still look alot better, simply because they weren't forced to wear those ugly bumpers.

^^^ Agreed. It's the big ugly bumpers that affect the value of the '73s.

As far as wagons, I don't know if '72s bring much more than '73s, simply.... because they're wagons. They might be a little easier to sell, and maybe they fetch a little more, but I don't know if I would consider it significantly more like the fastbacks.

For the wagon crowd, this isn't an issue. However, the market for vintage cars isn't based on practicality. The most extreme example is probably the Porsche 911. Ferdinand Porsche once said, "Nobody buys a Porsche because they need one.".

Believe it or not, you get used to those 5 mph bumpers. There were some cars back in the day that did a better job of integrating them than the Fords, but there were a lot that did a considerably worse job. I actually know at least one person who prefers the look of the '73s Gran Torinos to the '72s.

Seeing a bunch of excellent examples of both years lined up at Ford Carlisle a couple of weeks ago, it's hard for me to have a gigantic preference for one over the other. You have to admit the condition of this one puts it above the white '72 Squire that was on ebay not too long ago -- at least for anyone who's not a die hard '72 nut.

I'm just wondering if I could see $7500 for any Gran Torino wagon outside of a true #1 condition car.

I don't have any actual statistics to back it up, but I would say a '72 Gran Torino would be worth more than a comparable '73, just because of that grill. I'd guess on the order of perhaps 25-30% or so....

I didn't mean to imply they're an ugly or unattractive car. I love intermediate Fords. I have very close friends who own both 72 and 73 Torinos. However, the majority of the 73 owners that I know prefer the look of the 72. Here's a pic of us hanging out recently, in Knoxville. The owner of the 67 LTD also owns a 73 Torino. The owner of the Mustang also owns a 72 Torino and 76 Torino Squire. I'm the only oddball.
