Man, this guy hit almost all the high points. Patina, project, California car, Cruiser, "in demand", "hard to find". I think the only ones he missed were "rat rod" and "surf wagon"!

That being said though, it does look like a decent wagon for a decent price!

Per ad: 1962 Pontiac Bonneville project car. Solid 6 Passenger California black plate car with nice options. Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows and Air Conditioning.

This car has very little rust on it and the floorboards and frame are exceptional. It spent it's life in California until last Summer when I had it transported to Ohio. A different wagon project has come along and I am unfortunately going to let this one go.

The engine is not the original 389 and it is currently outside of the car. The 4 speed Hydramatic has been rebuilt. I do have a spare tailgate that I am buying this weekend that has good glass in it. The door panels are off of the car, but are all there. If interested, I do have 8-lug wheels that are available at an extra cost.

This car has great patina and would make for a nice cruiser. Wagons are in demand and solid cars are getting hard to find.

That is a BIG station wagon. I never could understand the big deal on the BLACK PLATE cars. As far as I know no other state owners care about the old license plate that comes with a car. Except maybe to put year of manufacture on and antique tags.
That black plate wouldn't do the rest of us in the other 49 states much good.

A different wagon project has come along and I am unfortunately going to let this one go.------------- In other words "there's more wrong than I imagined and will take more time and money than I have. Besides I can't afford to get the rusty top painted."

From what I can tell, the black plate on the car only helps to show that it has been a California car since the plate was issued. In California I think the plate stays with the car.

In other words, if it had been transplanted to the west coast from another state, it will not have a black plate.

    Plates

63-69 cars and I be live up to 70-or 71 commercial vehicles had black plates. My 64 still has the plates it was issued in 64 and the paper work to back it up. Most cars the plates have been changed do to lost plates and once that happens you are issued the current style plate. But you can get year of manufacture plates and they also have a vintage plate coming out that is black.

And here ya go!---It spent it's life in California until last Summer when I had it transported to Ohio. -It is now a Buckeye wagon----The black tag is useless. ------My 55 Chevy wagon still has an Illinois tag on front but has spent the last 21 years in Florida.

The "black tag" thing is not at all useless! You know that the car has spent the majority of its life registered in California!

So, you've never had an issue with the IL tag on the front? I've been thinking about putting an original '76 GA tag on the front of my wagon, but was wondering how law enforcement would feel about that.

No never had any problems here in Florida with the old Illinois tag on front. I've been stopped to verify the 1955 Florida rear tag which I use. I was told that as long as I have the legal rear Florida tag it is fine.
Of course this depends on the state and the cop who stops me. I was checked by both our local and state police with no problems. I have also been told you can run year of manufacture tags on your car without having them changed legally if you carry the new tag inside as proof. Your state laws may be different.
When I get back to Illinois I will once again need two legal Illinois tags. Hoping to get the old one renewed............ R TOY 55.
I had USA1955 on one and SHARP 57 on another but I signed the rights away for the USA 1955 tag when I sold the other 55 Chevy.
Maybe I'll just do like a lot of people do down here...... steal a tag and stick it on. Then I won't need insurance.

I've checked into this. Unfortunately, here in Georgia, the car must be 1970 or older. :(

I don't know what the cut off year is in Florida and Illinois. You may consider buying my place here and moving.

Someday we do have to list this place and move to the small home back in Illinois. Now that the snow is gone I need to get my butt in gear and do some cleaning up, packing up, and selling "stuff." Never expected to find a place so quick.
Now I'm considering a decent wagon as a driver. With my luck I'll find one this week and don't have the room unless I take it 1000 miles to it's new home.

Black plates were last issued many years ago so for a car to still have the black plate, registered to it is a pretty big deal, regardless of current state of residence.
That said, I like the part about the 4 speed hydromatic???? If it is 4 speed it isn't TH. May be a later model 200r4 or 700r4 overdrive or even a 4l60e. Most of these cars had powergilde 2 speeds, not sure what year moved on to 3 speed 350th or 400th.
either way, this car is worth the money if that is what someone wants.

OKlahoma allows YOM registration, for $21.00 per year, PLUS your normal tag cost of $21.00, so here it is $42.00 for both the normal reg and the YOM tag annually. It has to be older than 1981, and the YOM tag number can NOT be a currently-registered letter-number combination.
