I kinda like the 'wood' on these Custom Cruisers. It doesn't look good with some colors, though. Blue is one of those colors. White looks real good, as does a tan.

I can still hear my Dad making fun of our neighbor's new '78 Olds wagon, for the wood design. We had a '78 woody Pontiac Grand Safari, and out neighbor bought a new '78 Cruiser, and my Dad just flat HATED the way the would went over the wheel-wells on the Olds.

We'd been an Olds family until that Safari. Dad traded our '72 Cutlass formal-roof coupe for the Pontiac. He wanted the Pontiac 400 and hated the wood design, or he would have bought an Olds.

    Such fun!

So it's in Huntersville, North Carolina. Huh. Close to 500 miles from me.

    I haven't seen many 1978s so far.

    Well, for starters:

"does need some rust repair. (Front Floor Pans and some small stops around wheel wells). Wood decal has faded around wheels. This is just the decal fading,

Rear lift gate hinge broke but operational, with handle missing. Fuel and speedometer not accurate

Small valve cover gasket leak, slow drip onto manifold so may smoke a bit
    "

For a $1500 car, none of these is serious, and I agree, it's surprising it hasn't sold. But that list of problems, when seen as a whole like this, will turn some people off.

I do like his optimism here:

"Maybe this will be on Barrett Jackson someday! High retail is $16,625 and only going to get higher!"

The day that this car goes on Barrett Jackson (this particular car, not any '78 CC) is the day that pigs fly.

The day that this car brings $16K, regardless of what the always-inflated NADA Guide says and regardless of how well restored, is the day that those flying pigs learn to invent airplanes so they don't have to fly. :)

I noticed the faded vinyl paneling, but missed most of the other things. Thanks for pointing them out.
