Up to $12K? Where do you see this? His buy-it-now price is $12,950, and he has a make-offer option, but this is not a bidding auction. I have to agree that this is one of the nicest wagons I've ever seen. If it's worth nearly $13,000, I don't know, but I credit him for trying. If any of these is worth 5 figures, this one is. I do like how he waxes poetic in his description. Example: "A car like this will never break any speed records, and couldn’t do a massive burn out, but is could seat a family of up to nine and hold a week’s worth of luggage on the roof and create unforgettable laughter and fun times that were spread on to the next generation of families. This Olds symbolizes more than just a big old tank, it represents an American culture when Detroit tried to bring the qualities of your home and put them into a car….hence the wood grain siding representing the paneling in our homes and the plush sofa like seats that we all gathered around on and watched shows like Family Ties and the Huxtables." When's the last time someone selling a car used a phrase like "create unforgettable laughter" or mention television shows? Woodgrain siding represents paneling in our homes?
This car is in fantastic condition. It looks to have been garaged, as any exposure to salt tends to pit the plasti-chrome and roof-racks on these cars, and the up-close shots of the chrome and underhood tells me this one was kept out of the bad weather. VERY nice car. What does stand out though is the lack of options on this one. In '89-90 GM tended to load-up these wagons....trying to use up leftover boxy B-body parts knowing production would be ending soon? Seems like even Caprice wagons of this vintage had power passenger seats. Not to say this car is a stripper, it has a/c, tilt, cruise, power driver's seat, and such...but being an Oldsmobile, which tended to be almost to Buick-levels of equipment, here are some common options I see missing on this car: - No front lower fender corning lights - No fiber-optic package, so no fender-top and rear-headliner mounted light monitors - Has the cassette but not the graphic-equalizer option - No tow-package, so no additional engine/temp/oil/bat gauges on the sides of the steering column - No power passenger seat - No dome light reading lights (LOOKS WEIRD TO SEE THE 70's-ERA ROUND DOME LIGHT IN THIS CAR!) -- even odder considering it had dual-lighted visor-vanity mirrors. - No auto-dimming rear-view mirror (yes these were common in 89-90 models...had a rolling-distance dial on them). - Fixed antenna, non-power - No automatic temp control (somewhat a blessing these, the manual controls are bulletproof, where the ATC gets cranky with age). I may have missed some other options, but those quickly stood out. Interesting!! -Mike
Here's an '89 much better priced and optioned, but not nearly as mint. Pay or play? http://www.cars-on-line.com/74721.html
Keen eye! I didn't even notice this, but you are right. My '89 Pontiac Safari was higher optioned than this car - I mean mine had power antenna, dome reading map lights and cornering lights (as did my old '85 Caprice Estate). It wasn't nearly as nice as this Olds though. My wagons when I had them way back around 2006... (power antennas there, but didn't work, lol). The cornering lights were visible however.
I dug out my 89 Olds brochure, they had 4 option groups, this looks like the 2nd level group. I agree, really nice, but not that well optioned. Personally I'd prefer the brown interior.
When I looked at it, it WAS a bidding auction and the current bid was $12K...seems he changed his mind to a buy it now.
