84 Ford Escort wagon diesel - $2200 (Cisne)

1984 Ford escort fuel : diesel transmission : manual title status : clean

I have a 1984 ford escort station wagon with a 2.0 liter DIESEL engine! it has 165,000 miles and will continue to go up as it is a daily driver. Has brand new brake calipers. Tires are brand new . The interior is in a 7 out of 10. The radio works.the air condition does not blow cold. It is a 5 speed Manuel. This car gets about 55 mpg. I just have to many vehicles and needing money for my other projects. I also have a parts car to go along with it for 2400. The parts car does not run because the motor is apart and sitting in the back of the car. But the interior is in excellent shape. Call or text 618-two37-01six7 2200$ or 2400$ for the car And the parts car obo. May also consider trade of any sort. Just no low balling or offering your junk for trade. This car does not have to sell. Thanks Zach.

Given that Diesels get higher fuel efficiency than gas engines and it has a manual transmission and the size of the car, I'd say 55 MPG isn't far-fetched.

Well fetch this. I've written this before. I had a 1987 Ford Escort 2-door hatchback with a gas engine and stick. Got 50 MPG all the time. Even had a turtle pod on it full of camping gear and drove from central Illinois all over Pa. and another trip from Illinois to Florida and back. Still 50 MPG. Found out it had an experimental carb that the Ford dealer wanted to replace. I never went back.
It had the guts of a Moped hauling a fat gal up hill.:rofl2:

Hm, An experimental carburetor? Some people over at Ecomodder may be interested in hearing about that.

This was way back after I got it in 1987. By then it may have been 1988.
All I remember is I opened my mouth and bragged about the great fuel mileage while at the Ford dealer for some follow up or oil change. It was the only car I kept my fuel useage and MPG. I even showed the dealership my little notebook. They insisted swapping the carb. I never returned.
I believe it was the first year for an electronic carb. My brother's 1986 Escort just like mine with regular carb got around 35 MPG.
I don't remember the MPG ever going over 50 and rarely below that. Another odd thing was the electric fan hardly ever came on. Only did after driving hard and in mountains after stopping. This was with a large Sears Turtlepod loaded plus the back seat removed with camping supplies almost to the roof.
Since then I've seen other Escort info about similar gas mileage. I towed it behind my motorhome in 1994 when moving to Florida. Bought our house and drove only the Escort back to Illinois. That was twice from Florida in that little car. I swore I'd never drive it on the interstate. Hated to trade it for a Chevy van to move with.
Don't remember ever buying tires, battery, or much of anything for it from 1987-1994. May have replaced a battery but can't remember.
Funny I traded the Escort at our local Chevy dealer and left the notebook inside. Always wondered where that car went.
I hated that car for lack of power. Bought it to replace my Malibu as my tow behind for our motorhome. After I got used to flooring it before hills and the MPG I began to love it.

Since I'm spilling my guts I'll mention this. Whatever brand of oil I was using it began foaming up. In the filler cap hole the oil looked like rootbeer foam and the lifters brgan to clatter. Changed oil and brands then the engine was just fine. Maybe because the engine was running too cool?

For one of these I would even make an exception to my RWD only rule. Good sturdy Mazda Diesel.

My 1987 Escort was the only front wheel drive vehicle I've owned. As far as I remember it didn't feel any different to drive except a gas engine with not much power.
