I also am a huge fan of this style. It would be expensive to restore this, on top of the asking price, but it would be beautiful!

Actually, this one is in a lot better shape than some I've seen. I don't think the price is out of line considering it's a 4-door hardtop wagon, and it runs and drives. It does need some repairs, but it's mostly complete.

That deserves a showroom correct restoration. I've always loved the 1957 through 1959 Mercuries.

I agree with Krash and others. But I'd just clean it up and get it in running shape, then drive it. Always loved the 1957 Mercurys. Especially a friends 57 Turnpike cruiser convertible when new....With a continental kit. Wow!:2_thumbs_up_-_anima That thing must have been half a block long!

From experience with my '59. Doing a showroom restoration would be very expensive. I wish the new owner the best with this car.

IMHO, if you want a certain vehicle, and the buy-in for a restored car is way beyond you means, and a car in this condition comes along, you need to bite the bullet. These cars are rare enough, and once you have it you can take your time and do it in a manner that suits your budget. At least you have it and can enjoy it, drive it, and not keep looking for one. We all have a "best before" date and too often we wait too long for the perfect car to show up and by then we can't enjoy it.

I have a buddy who bought a '46 Curtis-Wright trailer - built by the same crew who were building Airstream trailers right after the war and recognized by the Airstream club as a sister trailer. He paid a lot of money for it at the time. His response was classic. I want one of these trailers. How many are left, are good enough that I can use it now and fix it as I go, how far would I have to go to find another and then get it home and in the time between now and then I could have this one either restored or been using it as is for a long time. And life is short, so while I can and while I'm able, the cost becomes secondary. I've got what I want, not perfect but neither am I and at least I can fix the trailer." I have gone with that program myself and up front maybe paid more for something that others would not have, but I have the vehicle, I'm enjoying it and having tremendous fun, and they are still looking for the right car.

Cat's right, enjoy it as is, change it when and if you can, otherwise, it is a great driver reflective of what a car of that vintage typically is.

I say well bought to the person who snapped it up and I'm envious.
