I did spend over half an hour on the phone with the company, with no success. They just won't say anything more than : "You're covered if you drive a vehicle belonging to someone else in Ontario". Totally unhelpful.
For the situation where a vehicle would still be under the name of the seller, but with bill of sale and application for transfer of property already completed, they just kept reading me different useless parts of the contract and concluded there was nothing to do and no solution.
So I asked for a supervisor and am still waiting for their call. I'll let you know.

Well everything seemed to go wrong... Seeing insurance might be a problem I called the transport company again, and the person said the first person I spoke to made a mistake : they no more have small trucks in Toronto, and therefore because they only have bilevel 18 wheelers and "99% of the clients are dealers", they will only pick up the car at a dealer, deliver at a dealer, have the car inspected on the spot, signatures, etc... And the price is not 350$ anymore, but 475$+Tx.

But I found that with a local company I could rent a 3/4 ton pick-up + auto trailer for 660$ both ways/2 days/km included. It might be the best option, would save me the need to drive to the airport in Montreal and then find a way to bring back my car, and I would be sheltered from any surprise with the CE during the trip back. Actually if I were sure there is no lien on the car I wouldn't even have to go to Service Ontario as I wouldn't need a transit tag.

In Ontario you can obtain a Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP) for about $20, all you need is the VIN number, it will list all owners that have had the car titled in their name within the province of Ontario, it will also list if there are liens on the vehicle. If you want to drive it back you should just need a insurance slip form your broker that shows the car is covered, you can then get the trip permit and you are good to go.
When I picked up mine from NY state I had a printed copy of the slip and proceeded to drive the car home from Buffalo.

Ask the buyer to purchase one on your behalf and offer to reimburse him/her, they are only $20 or so and are good for ten days, enough to get you home.

If you are shipping it check on Kijiji and you might get lucky with someone heading your way.
    Good luck with everything.

Mine did (pertaining to my story above). It was some sort of temporary policy, I think they called it a "rider"...or "binder"..? But it was specific to my wagon.

Thanks Dennis and Glide, I "cross my fingers" (can we say that in english ?) and hope everything works. My car insurance company was not really of any help but I found another insurance company who would insure the car and it was really simple, the contract is done and they only need to add the VIN to mail me the documents and proof of insurance which will allow me to get my transit tag.
Now it all depends on the seller, I'm ready to drive or fly to Toronto and checked all the procedure and details with the DMV. I'm only missing the VIN but the seller is away. I'll keep you posted !
