Beautiful looking car. I often work not too far from there, so if anyone wants me to take a look, let me know.

    Hope it works out !

    Hi guys !

Sorry for not having posted it before, I was in travel. If everything goes well this CE should travel back to her new home in Quebec soon :)...

After 3 years of watching the classifieds almost daily, I was wondering if I would ever find... So I must admit I’m quite eager to see it happen !

I was away on Sunday but luckily managed to get on kijiji from my phone and the ad had just been posted, so I jumped on what could be THE opportunity and right away called the seller. He’s a very nice guy, and from what I understood (the line was very bad and my English so so) the car is originally from Texas and rust free.

So, after exchanging a few mails and checking the flight schedule to Toronto, he’s holding it for me until the 14th when I’ll fly to Pearson and hopefully drive it back. But if hoses/tires/belts/ servicing or anything else seems doubtful, I’ll have to fly back though and hire a flatbed (350$), because I must be back in Montreal by the 15th in the afternoon.

I know it’s crazy, I haven’t examined it yet, but as such opportunites are so rare here in salt country and the car looks promising I’m moving forward. I have high hopes this will work... last year I theoretically “bought” a 1977 CP after many phone calls with the really nice owner and my cheque was in the mail, but he needed it gone rapidly so finally it didn’t work out.

Mike your offer is really nice ! But the seller said he's not available to show the car until the week of the 12th. Do you happen to be in Mississauga on the 14th ?

I really hope we'll celebrate soon the arrival of this nice CE in the family ! I might have to buy my wife anticonvulsants though...

I'll let you know if there are newer developments.

    Have a nice evening :)

Best of luck in pursuing this lovely Caprice, Pombi. From what can be seen in the pics, the car seems to be in excellent shape. In my opinion, the price is a really great deal if the car does only have 45,000 miles on it. We have seen low mileage Caprices in similar condition being listed in the 5 - 8k range. Keep us posted.

Looking at the map of the location of the seller he is approx. 15 mins from my home, let me know if can be of any assistance. All you will need is proof of insurance and a trip permit from the local DMV and you are good to go. Hope that it works out for you.

It's for sale rite now, but seller can't show the car until the week of the 12th?..... RED FLAG IMO.

BP made a awesome offer to view the car also for you and he's 15 minutes away, I strongly suggest you take up 1 of the 2 offers and have the car viewed before you spend $ on a plane ticket, and possible tow fees.

I wish you the best of luck, and the car may just be exactly what we see, real nice, but you never do know until you look.

For starters, it has BUICK tail lights. These could have been changed for personal preference (I put Chevy on my Buick, I like the look better) , or a lens got broken and that's what they could find, or worst case.... the car has ben hit/repaired and those lights were all they could find.

I wish you the best of luck, but still suggest if you can't go and view yourself while excepting the possibility of going home with no wagon, don't do anything until Mike or BP who is 15 minutes away view and test drive the car for you. And if the seller can't show the car until the 12th, well tell him after your friend has viewed the car then and only then you'll fly out pending there opinion.... I'd also ask, Why can't it be viewed until then?

Edit..... you sure the car "is" from Texas, or just built in Texas? The 88 I just looked at has a 'Built In Texas GM" sticker in one of the door windows.

Hi Tedy and BP and thanks+++ for your help and good advice.

Tedy I can’t agree more, if BP or Mike could take a look at the car before the 14th that would be for me of invaluable help. If it's possible, I will email the seller that a friend offered to check the car for me before I fly in, mentioning that it would be really useful for both of us in order to ease things on the 14th, which will certainly be a very busy day.

From what I ‘ve been told, the car is from southern US and belonged to a family member, who moved back to Europe 4 years ago. The current owner has had it since then, but is moving to a townhouse hence the need to sell. He also said he wants to sell fast because of the move, but himself is going to be away overseas next week until the 11th.

So that’s why I felt hurried, on the phone he said he wanted it gone fast, and I think he found waiting for me to come to Toronto could be an undesirable delay. Maybe he hoped to sell it within a week. But after I explained how serious and interested I was, he concluded he would keep it for me until I could come see it during the week of the 12th. I am very short of time this month but I think if I wait the car might disappear.

I must say he sounded very honest and trustable on the phone. I’ve had bad experiences before, and I found this started very well. He also made sure I knew what kind of car it was, that it could be only a summer car, and emphasized the fact I need to drive it before I decide anything. When I speak english I sound very young so he probably thought I wasn't really used to cars of the 80s.
Actually I am a product of the early 70s and they are the ones I remember best :)

About any accident, the answer though was “not that I know of”... So I will check for any clue of welding, misalignement or replacement of body/wood panels, etc...

If the car is not what it looks to be, it would certainly be great to know. I was planning to use aeroplan miles and book a return flight anyways, which I can cancel/reuse for any destination within 1 year, but it still is a lot of time spent going to Toronto from Sherbrooke, regardless of the issue of the trip.

Thanks again and let me know what you think :)

This really does look like a great wagon. I too am a product of the early 70's and learned how to drive in my dad's '83 C.E...and it was very close in color to this one.

I'm not sure of the travel distance between Sherbrooke and Toronto, but if it makes you feel any better, I once traveled nearly 2K miles to buy my first wagon. Long story short, I flew from CA to NY, rented a car and convinced my dad to take a road trip with me from NY to IL where the wagon was located. Deal went without a hitch (pardon the pun). Drove the wagon back to my parent's house and flew back to CA. (Didn't have the 2 weeks vacation time to drive it back to CA). Once back in CA, I sent for a closed-carrier to pick up the wagon and shipped out to CA. Crazy? Maybe. But doesn't that come with the territory of being in "wagon love"? :bouncy:

Yes I'm sure it does !!
Your adventure sounds like a really cool road trip with your dad, I was thinking about that too but he's very busy these days. We once drove to the rockies from Montreal together in an '89 E350 RV, we had such a great time !!

About the proof of insurance, does anyone now if I need a proof of insurance for that specific vehicle ? or simply a proof of car insurance in general. The tricky situation is : as the vehicle will leave Ontario for Quebec, the transfer of ownership will be done in Quebec, and I'm not sure the insurance company will issue a proof of insurance for a car that's still not registered under my name.

I called Transport Ontario : they first told me a proof specifically for the car, then changed their version, and globally it was quite unclear:hmmm:. So I was wondering if anyone has had experience with that before.

Thanks again everyone for your help :)
