Here is another beauty... one year older. 1984 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency Brougham... these sure changed a lot from 1984-1985. lol.

Both so different, but both so elegant. I love them both.

In the early 90s when I was a teenager, I had a 1983 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency - the interior was identical to this and even in the same condition! I sold the car in 1993 for $300. :( The old lady that bought it from me drove it for years up into the early 2000s until she was unable to drive... then her son eventually finished it off. :(

I agree, great looking cars, especially with the Brog-ham interiors. (y)

Yeah, it is a shame they do not make cars this plush any longer.

Wow the mileage on that 85 sure is low. Both are great looking cars. When we were in college my wife had an 88 LeSabre coupe with the 3800 engine. It was great on gas and the car had plenty of power. Wouldn't mind having another one...

What you have to watch on those front wheel drive cars is the cross member built into the floor pan of the uni-body. It is the mount for the front sub frame, and it has a horrible habit of turning to power, leaving the outboard ends of the sub frame hanging in mid air. I've seen it on a few cars.

I'd love to have that, it would have replaced my poor '95 Cutlass Ciera SL very nicely.

Yeah, it is a beauty and I love the '84 just as much, even though it is a very different automobile. Both are special in their own way.

What caused that to break? Was that caused due to excessive rust? I don't recall ever seeing that on the models here in the south.

It was rust, and I have seen it on cars that were otherwise looking very good with very little rust. It must be a rust belt thing. The first time I heard of it was from someone in Pennsylvania, but I've since seen it on 3 others here. The last one was one of my coworker's and he was asking why the car was leaning to the driver's side. There was the one arm of the sub frame bolted to NOTHING but air! The car left on a flat bed!

Yeah, we don't really have a rust problem here in Tennessee. I actually have never seen rust on one of these cars before.

I can understand a car from Pennsylvania having rust... that is a rust belt state for sure, especially in the northern part of the state.

Ontario has very much the same climate as Pennsylvania. The salt just eats cars. We have 10 year old cars in holes.

Mmm, that stinks! Yeah, I once bought a 1994 Lumina in 2002. The entire undercarriage was rusted out, though I didn't know it when I purchased it. I wasn't expecting that. I had never seen a car rust like that around here of any age, much less an 8 year old car... I did some research and discovered that the car was originally from Cleveland, Ohio... that explained it. lol. I vowed I would never buy a car from the northern USA again.

I had a great aunt that lived in Detriot, Michigan... she purchased a new Cadillac every 2-3 years (back in the 70s and 80s)... why I asked her... she said after 3 years they started rusting. lol.

The floors and frame on my '72 Chevy and '73 Pontiac are some light surface rust at worst (well my wagon has totally rust free floors - not even any surface rust). My Caprice a little rustier on the back lower areas however because of the rear cargo area window leaks, not because of salt. lol.
