Could be a good deal anyway. Interesting upholstery on the front seats. 10 passengers? My 86 Colony Park had seatbelts for 7. And it was crowded with 7.

 

We had a thread about this issue a while ago, Taranau. I did some research and found that the early DFRS wagons were advertised as having 'room for 10', and they did come with 4 belts in the back. Later on, around 1979 or so they changed that around and only quoted 8-passenger capacity. (3,3, and 2)

My 86 Colony Park had three seatbelts for the front seat, but the middle one had a dummy buckle(not a broken buckle, but one that looked like a buckle but had no inner workings. Judging by the look if it, never did. Was that an option?), so there was only seating for two up front. 7 total.

 

Never heard of a 'dummy buckle' Your wagon should have had seating for 3 up front - even if you had the split seat design.

 

... another thing, it is actually either a 1986 - 1987 LTD wagon, not a 1989 Country Squire.

 

I don't know what else to say... It looked like the other buckles, but was hollow and chrome plated inside and out... Do remember sitting in the middle, in the front, and having a working seatbelt there---even in cars that weren't wagons, because that's where the person in charge of the radio sat. My family's 74 Ford LTD Brougham had the Captain's Chairs with arm rests. But, when the arm rests were up, there was a working seatbelt there, for sitting safely in the middle. Now, nobody ever got to sit there, if they did they'd crowd Mom too much and make her freak out man...

 

What you had was a defective seat belt buckle. There should have been 3 in both front rows, with 2 in the way back. Not only is the year wrong, the model is, too. That is not a Country Squire. It is an LTD Crown Victoria L wagon. That upholstery is quite correct for an L package Crown Vic. That is the lowest price model of the line, and can be taxi-cab basic. In Canada, that was the only trim level on which both the Taxi and Police packages were available.

 

its still very nice with minimal miles and most likely little money to spend and little work required for an enjoyable

 

check for out of state title or the inspection stickers for milage

 

Taranau, if I were you, I'd take out the bottom of the back seat, (it's easy to do, just push it hard towards the back and lift), and I'll bet you'll find the other strap for that third belt. They have a tendency to slip down between the horizontal and vertical parts of the seat. Perhaps the snap in part broke over the years and the guts fell out of it, but I've never heard of a wagon not having seating for 3 in the 2nd seat.
It cracks me up this guy is calling it a Country Squire. Excuse me, but I see no wood/dinoc on it, so it's an LTD wagon, not a Squire. Sheesh!!

 

also didn't the dash's change a few times over the run of these looks just like my 79 dash

 

WagonKiller: There was one change in the dash, for 1990/91. That is when the dash lost the provision for 2 more speakers for the stereo.
